Veronica (complicatedreamer) | 10 comments I believe this book starts out with the husband getting a phone call, and recognizing his long-lost wife's voice on the line. She had amnesia and had seen an article in the newspaper about him and his name had "rung a bell". Several years before, he had been overseas, possibly in the army and she gave birth to their sun, and then just walked out of the hospital and didn't come back. He didn't really believe her, and hated her for what she had done (and still loved her). He brought her home, and they ended up figuring out that someone was trying to kill her. I believe they lived with his family for a while and then got a house in town. Once there was some sort of hippie protest/riot/demonstration thing going on in their neighborhood, and the little boy went outside. When she went after him, they got rounded up and stuck in jail with everyone else. He came home and couldn't find them, but eventually discovered where they were. At the end, she regains her memory. She remembered that she had been living with some gypsy hippies, and the leader who was also possibly her boyfriend, and killed someone. She had seen the murder and left and that was where the main story started. The hippie leader/murderer was the one who was after her. She and her husband re-fell in love. I thought that the author was something Michaels, so I checked Barbara Michaels, but couldn't find it among her books.

Veronica (complicatedreamer) | 10 comments I finally found it. I knew it had something to do with the name Michael. It's "Michael's Wife" by Marlys Millhiser.
