If remade into another movie, heaven forbid, who do you think would play Rhett Butler?

He doesn't have that cruel edge that Clark Gable had. That angry "Love her/Hate Her" malice and confusion that Clark Gable pulled off so well. Clark Gable was perfect - he was a man of his time, when men still thought of women as lesser beings ...
You almost need a snide/rude/condescending character - and Gerard just is too nice (well, in my head ...)
I can't see Hugh Jackman as Rhett although he'd look great in the outfits.
Johnny Depp is perfectly suave enough ... and could be cold and mean too - and broken ... he gets my vote, with RDJ as a close second. Give him 20 years and Ian Somerhalder would be a perfect Rhett.

Johnny Depp :)

Let's face it, Gerard Butler can't act. ;)
My problem is Scarlett. I can't even think of any young actresses who match her description, let alone are good actresses. If this was the 90's I'd say Jennifer Connelly.
Ashley, I've no idea. How about Ryan Gosling? He's tallish, blondish, and has that "he's considered a dreamboat but I've no idea why" quality.
But if it's got Clive Owen as Rhett, I'd watch it if the rest of the cast was CGI! :D

I think no matter who they would cast in any role of the movie it would be a travesty. Why remake perfection.

Rhett also has to be significantly older than Scarlett. She is only a teenager at the beginning of the book and he is already a very rich man, mostly by his own means by the time he meets her.

Daniel Craig is a great actor!!! He doesn't really look the part but I am convinced he is suave enough and charismatic enough to pull it off.

I think Alexander Skarsgård would be a shoe in for playing Ashley. But you would need a strong "Rhett" to play off of him.

Mila Kunis/Rachel Mcadams - scarlett
Ryan reynolds - Ashley
Kate winslet - melanie

Nope. Too dainty.

Wouldn't it be fascinating if they remade it, but sort of in the way of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo Di Caprio? Same plot, same lines but modern setting? Hopefully not the 80's with all of the neon pants and such and definitely nothing with special effects or zombies.

I have to agree on that one :)

Rachel isn't pretty enough.

I love both mila and Rachel :) but my fav is Kristen stewart but I don't think she is suitable for either role
