If remade into another movie, heaven forbid, who do you think would play Rhett Butler?

Dana Also, Rhett Butler's undeniable charm! I am sure Michael Fassbender is actor enough that he could infuse that.

Ayny Joaquin Phoenix could do it, maybe.

message 253: by Dana (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dana Hugh Jackman is actor enough to do an American Southern accent, I think so!

Bridgette Gerard Butler - as much as I adore the man when he does anything like ... oh, well, STAND, or SIT or ... *sigh* ... what was I talking about?
He doesn't have that cruel edge that Clark Gable had. That angry "Love her/Hate Her" malice and confusion that Clark Gable pulled off so well. Clark Gable was perfect - he was a man of his time, when men still thought of women as lesser beings ...
You almost need a snide/rude/condescending character - and Gerard just is too nice (well, in my head ...)

I can't see Hugh Jackman as Rhett although he'd look great in the outfits.
Johnny Depp is perfectly suave enough ... and could be cold and mean too - and broken ... he gets my vote, with RDJ as a close second. Give him 20 years and Ian Somerhalder would be a perfect Rhett.

Rose Blum Olivia wrote: "I saw a discussion as to who would play Scarlett O'Hara if the movie were to be remade- so how about a similar discussion- who do you think would play Rhett Butler?"

Johnny Depp :)

Renee E Or he could play Scarlet . . .

Vanessa Eden Patton Lmfao...he will have to tone down the eye liner or else he will have to play Belle.

Cheryl Greer Clive Owen or nothing. I've been completely convinced by watching him in The Knick, with a mustache and wearing clothes from 1900.

Let's face it, Gerard Butler can't act. ;)

My problem is Scarlett. I can't even think of any young actresses who match her description, let alone are good actresses. If this was the 90's I'd say Jennifer Connelly.

Ashley, I've no idea. How about Ryan Gosling? He's tallish, blondish, and has that "he's considered a dreamboat but I've no idea why" quality.

But if it's got Clive Owen as Rhett, I'd watch it if the rest of the cast was CGI! :D

message 259: by Maria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Maria Matthew mcconnaughy (sp) as Rhett or Ashley ?

message 260: by Wally (new)

Wally Rachel McAdams (dyeing the hair dark) and she would play Scarlet perfectly along with Henry Cavill or Hugh as Rhett *swoons*

Vanessa Eden Patton Rachel mcadams?! Hardly.

message 262: by Peg (new) - rated it 4 stars

Peg NO NO NO!!!!!!!!
Do not remake the movie!
Do not replace Clark Gable!
Do not mess with perfection!

message 263: by Wally (new)

Wally No one can replace Clark gable. And a remake, is not in the process just in thought of who could ever pull off those roles... They were made classic by these pple and everything going on in the world around. Rachel isn't a bad choice. She can pull off Vivian... Clark is irreplaceable but Henry is tall, dark and yummy... Definitely good material to work with

Vanessa Eden Patton Rachel can't act and isn't pretty enough not to mention she doesn't have the eye color. I'm sorry but that's my opinion. She's done one decent movie that happens to be a love story but that doesn't give her the credentials to play one of the most important characters in movie and book history.

message 265: by Wally (new)

Wally This is my opinion and firm.

Vanessa Eden Patton I don't care, that's fine.
I think no matter who they would cast in any role of the movie it would be a travesty. Why remake perfection.

Vanessa Eden Patton I think Hugh Jackman and Leonardo would be good as Rhett, but to me, there is not one actress in Hollywood that can be Scarlett. They would have to do like they did back in the day when they searched for Scarlett ; it would be a nation wide fiasco.

message 268: by Wally (new)

Wally I agree wholeheartedly... Clark and Vivien. Fell in love with them in their roles. Perfection

message 269: by Emma (new) - rated it 3 stars

Emma Emun Elliott as Rhett. Have to think about Scarlett for awhile.

Emun Elliott

Vanessa Eden Patton Rhett is supposed to be sexy .

message 271: by Wally (new)

Wally Lol

message 272: by Wally (last edited Sep 26, 2014 04:02PM) (new)

Wally Needs to have playful eyes and a certain presence when walking into a room that demands attention, and respect.

Brittain *Needs a Nap and a Drink* Vanessa Eden wrote: "Rhett is supposed to be sexy ."

Rhett also has to be significantly older than Scarlett. She is only a teenager at the beginning of the book and he is already a very rich man, mostly by his own means by the time he meets her.

message 274: by Wally (last edited Sep 26, 2014 07:38PM) (new)

Wally A bit of a stretch maybe but any thoughts on James Franco? I thought his performance in, Tristan & Isolde was beautiful... Might work with the right actress

Vanessa Eden Patton James Franco would b a good choice

message 276: by [deleted user] (new)

how about Daniel Craig?

message 277: by AliJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

AliJ Carly wrote: "Haha, definitely Bette Midler as Belle Watling!"

sorry too old

message 278: by Maria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Maria Yeah, she is too old, but OMG - wouldn't she have been great, maybe 20 years ago??

Vanessa Eden Patton She would have been awesome she has that whole buxom beauty thing going on!

Reading Harbor Doris wrote: "how about Daniel Craig?"

Daniel Craig is a great actor!!! He doesn't really look the part but I am convinced he is suave enough and charismatic enough to pull it off.

Renee E It would need to be an actor who, while he takes his craft seriously, doesn't take himself too seriously. He needs to be capable of infusing the character with a sense of roguery and disguising his feelings behind a facade of perpetual amusement at the import everyone around him assigns to everything.

message 282: by Sherry (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sherry Matthew McConaughey would be sooooo good as Rhett Butler. :D

message 283: by Wally (new)

Wally I think Matt is a little past his prime in good looks... Maybe 10yrs ago... He can definitely play with arrogance and heart throb all in one. Not a bad choice. What about Orlando bloom... I'm still getting the "Tall and dark" image from his pirate debut back in POTC

message 284: by Wally (last edited Oct 02, 2014 02:33AM) (new)

Wally I wouldn't mind seeing Mark Warburg in a period piece.... Idk about his speech tho.
I think Alexander Skarsgård would be a shoe in for playing Ashley. But you would need a strong "Rhett" to play off of him.

message 285: by Yvette (new) - rated it 5 stars

Yvette I vote for Karl Urban as Rhett, masculine and dangerous... yeah, he could make it work.

Annette mathews Ian Somerhalder- Rhett butler
Mila Kunis/Rachel Mcadams - scarlett
Ryan reynolds - Ashley
Kate winslet - melanie

message 287: by Dana (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dana If Kate Winslet were still in her 20's, she would be the perfect Scarlett.

Annette mathews ya :) what do you think abt ian as Rhett?! tailor made role right!?

Renee E Annette wrote: "ya :) what do you think abt ian as Rhett?! tailor made role right!?"

Nope. Too dainty.

Annette mathews Lol :) if people think he can pull off the role of Christian grey , I think he would definitely make a good Rhett

Renee E The Christian Grey character isn't all that masculine. Somerhalder's a good choice for him. He has that effete aura.

message 292: by Brittain *Needs a Nap and a Drink* (last edited Oct 08, 2014 09:31PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Brittain *Needs a Nap and a Drink* Viggo Mortensen for Rhett?

Wouldn't it be fascinating if they remade it, but sort of in the way of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo Di Caprio? Same plot, same lines but modern setting? Hopefully not the 80's with all of the neon pants and such and definitely nothing with special effects or zombies.

Annette mathews Renee wrote: "The Christian Grey character isn't all that masculine. Somerhalder's a good choice for him. He has that effete aura."

I have to agree on that one :)

Vanessa Eden Patton I'm sorry but I just don't think Mila Kunis can't act. She butchered the wicked witch in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Rachel isn't pretty enough.

Annette mathews Vanessa Eden wrote: "I'm sorry but I just don't think Mila Kunis can't act. She butchered the wicked witch in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

I love both mila and Rachel :) but my fav is Kristen stewart but I don't think she is suitable for either role

Vanessa Eden Patton Idk about Kristin Stewart either. I will have to look her up . :)

Annette mathews she acted in #twilight #bella s role

Vanessa Eden Patton Oh god! I know who she is now.

Annette mathews ya :) what was the reaction for?! lol :)

Vanessa Eden Patton I think your right she wouldn't be a great Scarlett but she would be an interesting belle. She could play her kinda mysterious and dark in a sexy way.

I've never seen or read Twilight btw, but I know who she is.
