Where are your favourite places in the world?

- At the end of Whitby Pier (Yorkshire), in winter, after dark. The pier is so long that you feel like you're in the middle of the ocean and when you turn round and look back at Whitby it looks more gothic than ever - with the Abbey etc all lit up and ghostly looking. And once you've got sufficiently frozen there's nothing like staggering into one of Whitby's many pubs for a large glass of mulled wine.

Holkham Beach in Norfolk, preferably when the weather is not that great because then it's quiet and I can spend some time thinking.

I also love walking on the towpath on the Gloucester and Sharpness canal

Sounds lovely - we holidayed in Norfolk a few years ago - it rained every day but we still had a really good time.

This is incredibly boring BUT

in my back garden on a summer evening looking out over the fields to the cheviot hills, a comfy chair, with a good book and a glass of brandy and dry and a bowl of crisps. Sheer bliss and I know I'm very lucky!

@Lee - my parents live in Norfolk so I've been there a fair few times. Holkham is a lovely wide beach (when the tide is out), great for walks and thinking :)

Have you ever been there when the Goths are about? There are some very colourful sights!

I'm quite keen on photography and have meant to get to Whitby to photograph the Goths for a couple of years but haven't made it yet. Do you know when it is?

They have two long weekends there, one in April and one in October, around Halloween.

No, I haven't but I would love to! I bet it's great fun. I still haven't been to the Dracula Museum either so will have to make a bit of an effort to go next time I'm off work (got no excuse now I'm driving!)
