Mabel looked down at the floor as she caught Alexander's eye. Her father nodded thoughtfully "well i would like to offer you a job Sir" he said "i will pay you more than whatever you are getting payed now plus the privilege of accompanying my daughter everyday if you would consider becoming her protecter"
Alexander suddenly felt his heart stop. He looked at Mr Nightsmount calmly and bowed his head," It would be my honour, Mr Nightsmount". He did not know exactly how Mabel felt, so he looked at her and said," It would be much appreciated if the lady is okay with this as well as her father. Mabel?".
Mabel's face stayed the same but her eyes sparkled "i would love you to accompany me Sir" she said formally. "Ok then it is settled you can begin tomorrow" Mr Nightsmount said, reaching out his hand to Alexander.
Alexander reached his hand and placed in Mr Nightsmount, he shook it firmly and then nodded. "Thank you, you must stay for some desert, my maids prepared a lovely set for us". Alexander looked at his maid and nodded, she immediately went to the kitchen.
"If you insist Mr Johnson" Mabel's father said, sitting back in his seat. Mabel's heart was doing backflips. She would now be spending everyday with Alexander and not have to worry about those horrible people again
Alexander's maid had brought the cake, she served them and they ate. "I would like to say again, how grateful I am for this job. Thank you", Alexander bowed his head and said," I will do whatever I can to protect your daughter".
With my life, he thought.
He shook his head "no it is you i should thank. I've known i should get Mabel an acquaintance for some time, now that she is getting older. But i just never felt like i could trust anyone. She is my most precious position after all" he said, beaming at Mabel
Alexander smiled, now that was a real father. A father who cared for his daughter and treated her like a person rather than some worker. He smiled down at his cake and then place it on the table," She is indeed".
((Should we skip?))
((Yep to the next day))Mabel sat at the piano, waiting for Alexander to arrive. Her fingers flew across the keys and the music flew out of her like she was reading a book. She was so happy that he father had asked him to keep her company. It meant she could go out a lot more now and spend time with Alex.
Alexander stood at the door with his hands behind his back, he looked in at Mabel playing the piano and smiled to himself. He clapped and said," You are amazing, at playing the piano of course". He walked in and looked at her then at the piano," What else can you play?".
She jumped a little as he entered the room, blushing at his comment "my favourite is Tchaikovsky" she said, looking up at him "i love the swan lake and nutcracker stories. What about you?"
Alexander was impressed with her, fascinated in her ways of life and learning. He nodded and said," Excellent choice. Have you ever gone to see Dracula in the Opera? Well, it has to be my favourite, the music is dark yet appealing". He looked at her and said," Maybe one day I shall take you".
"I've never seen an opera" she said a little sadly "my mother says I'm not old enough yet. she still treats me like a little girl" she shouldn't have said it really, not to someone out of the family but Alex as so easy to speak to, the words just flew from her mouth
Alexander smiled slightly and then said," Then we will just have to tell a little white lie". He looked at her and knew that she was no longer a little girl, she had the fine assets of a women. He looked around the room and then said," Fine house you have here".
She smiled and followed his gaze "yes. Father loves this house but i prefer the cottage in the country. He hates it there though with all the animals and mud. London is far to cramp and busy for my liking"
Alexander wondered what the Mabel in the country side was like, peaceful maybe? He looked at the painting and replied to her," London does not seem like a place for you, it is harsh and brutal. You seem peaceful and quiet, it's a good thing". He turned around with his hands behind his back and looked at her," What is on today's agenda?".
She smiled a took a tiny black leather diary off the top of the piano, opening it to the page with the piece of ribbon handing out "i have to attend a garden party with Mother and Father at 1pm at a house about an hour away so we have to leave with them at 11:30" she said "but thats all"
Alexander stood straight and nodded his head, listening and taking in what Mabel was saying. He looked at her and pondered," But what?".
He would go with her, but he would be in the backgrounds lurking, checking up on everything.
Mabel closed the book and sat it back down on top of the piano "well you will come right?" She asked "i don't normally know anyone at these things and it can get rather boring. I think that another reason Mother convinced Father to hire you, so you could accompany me" she said with a smile and a little blush.
Alexander smiled and nodded," Of course I will, Mabel. If you want me to be at your side the whole time then I shall do as I'm instructed". He smiled at her and looked her in her eyes, giving her a soft and gentle look.
This was his job now, but was also what he wanted to do.
She smiled at him kindly "thank you Alexander" she said softly "what did you want to do now? We have an hour or so until i have to get ready" she said, tilting her head a little to the side in question.
"It is my pleasure", he smiled and bowed his head. He looked around and then looked back at Mabel," Do whatever it is you would normally do, Mabel, I am simply just someone who will take care of you. You don't have to entertain me". He smiled at her and laughed slightly, he liked her.
She smiled "then take a set an i shall continue playing for you" she said, turning to the piano again and finding the piece if music she wanted to play. In the end she ended up playing a little piece she had written herself, but not finished yet.
Alexander smiled and bowed," Well of course". He grinned at her jokingly and then looked back to find a chair, he picked it up and placed it next to Mabel. He watched and listened carefully as she played, soft yet dramatic. It eased him.
All of the sudden the music just stopped and she turned to look at Alexander "i can't think of how to continue it" she said, her fingers still resting on the last cords "most of the song just came to me but now i'm stuck"
Alexander smiled," It's a beautiful song anyway". He looked to her for permission to press the piano, and then continued. He played simply, softly and spontaneously. Alexander loved to play piano, it just wasn't what he was used to doing.
She smiled as Alex started to play a song she had never heard "you didn't tell me you played" she said, her eyes sparkling "your really good"
Alexander smiled and said," It was necessity in my family to learn to play piano. All my siblings know how to play also". He remembered his father and mother watching over him as he played as a young boy.
"This is your song?" She asked, looking up at him with a smile. She could imagine Alexander as a little boy playing proudly for his mother and father, trying to impress them.
"Yes, it's a family song", Alexander said, looking at her and smiling slightly. He had been taught how to play the piano but also how to compose music. He looked to her and said," Mabel, do you have any siblings?".

((Sorry!))
