((No that's fine! I don't like to do it detailed because I like to find stuff out about the character as we go along))
((Sure))Mabel sat at the grand piano in the family room, trying to learn a new song. Her fingers just wouldn't do it! She sighed frustratedly and tried again, messing up on the 5th bar.
((Sorry i didn't know how to start it. if you don't like it i can try again))
((It's okay)) Alexander wandered the streets of London, seeing stores and what not, poor, dirty children looked into the windows of those stores.
He tapped the child's shoulder and all of the children turned," Here, little fellows". He took money from his pocket and gave each one of them money. The kids thanked him and called him a kind sir, but it was just him.
Frustrated with her falling attempts Mabel got up from the piano and walked to the front hallway. She told one of the maids that she was going for a walk and grabbed her shawl and hat, opening the front door and stepping out onto the busy London street.
Alexander didnt ponder much, but when he walked past this suspicious shop named," Gunser", he couldn't help but to stare and not watch where he's going. So without surprise he bumped into someone, and nearly tripped them up. But he caught the person and immediately said," I am very sorry!". He looked down to see the most glorious looking women he had ever seen.
Mabel looked up at the person who had bumped into her with a small smile "no, it should be me who is sorry sir. I should watch where i'm going" she blushed a little. It was improper for her to be this close to such a fine looking man, especially out in public. How the press would have a field day on such an advent such as this, her father would be ferocious seeing his name on the heading of The Times. ((I just thought to make it a bit spicier (that sounds weird) her dad could be the owner of one of London's massive companies))
((Yeah no, sounds good)) Alexander laughed and shook his head, he stood up and let go of her when she stood up.
"No, my lady. It's mine, neither was I looking where I was going. Pardon my behaviour", he said genuinely. He smiled and couldn't help but to stare at her, startled by such a beauty.
She smiled back at him "as long as i am forgiven then so are you kind sir" Mabel said, stubbornly. He was quite a fine man, she noticed, handsome, tall and very gentlemanly. And he was so genuine in everything he did, you couldn't find many men like that anymore.
Alexander gave her a smug smile and bowed his head slightly, he lifted his top hat and said," My lady, you are very much forgiven". He looked at the busy London road and said," What is a young, beautiful women like you doing out here by yourself?". He wondered what such a women like her was doing, London was not such a safe place.
Jack the Ripper had become London.
Mabel bit her lip slightly not sure weather to tell him or not "i needed a walk" she said "just to get away from the house for a little" she wondered if he knew who she was, who her father was. She hoped he didn't but he didn't seem like the type of man that would use her to get to her father as other men would.
"Ah, I see", Alexander said, pulling his gloves off and looking at her. He suddenly realised that he had not introduced himself," My, I'm very sorry, I have not yet introduced myself". Alexander softly took her hand and said," Alexander Johnson. I would be honoured if you introduced yourself to me?", he kissed her hand delicately.
Mabel smiled slightly as he took her hand and introduced himself so formally "Mabel Nightsmount" she said back with a small curtsy and a bow of her head. 'Alexander' she thought 'how proper for a man like him'.
"Mabel", he said delicately,"Thats a lovely name". He smiled at her and then slowly let go of her hand. He looked deep into her eyes and asked," Would you like to walk with me? Since I'm just wandering the streets and you are too, we might as well wander the streets together". Alexander noticed that two men had there eyes on Mabel, he looked at them and then looked at Mabel with a smile. He offered her his arm and raised his eyebrows.
Mabel looked back at her house, it would probably be tea soon and she wouldn't be there. But she washed the thought away as soon as it came, she was a young woman and soon she would have her own household to run she didn't see how a little walk would hurt. Mabel smiled at Alexander "i would love to go for a walk with you Mr Johnson" she said formally and took his outstretched arm. She would probably get in trouble later for going with him without a chaperone but it was just this once.
Alexander smiled and bowed his head slightly, he slowly started to walk as she linked her hand through his arm. He looked around at the two men that had started following them again, they kept looking away or pretending to look at some market stools. "My lady, are you of some royalty or some nobility to this country or are you just someone important?", he asked.
Mabel smiled as they walked along the streets, oblivious to their followers. She very rarely got to see London as it truly was with the hungry children and desperate parents. "No" she said a small amount of amusement in her voice "i am just my father's daughter. Perhaps you have heard of him; George Nightsmount. He owns the Loyal Bank chain" she was curious to she if this changed his behaviour at all but hoped it wouldn't.
As they walked down the London road, he heard her say the name that everyone was speaking about. Yet that did not stop him. "Yes", he said," I've heard of your father".
Alexander steered Mabel into a alley way, he suddenly turned to her, looking her in the eye and grabbed her shoulders," My lady, things are about to become very ...odd".
He stood in front of Mabel as the two men approached.
As Alexander pushed her into an alleyway Mabel began to panic. She didn't know what he was doing. When the two men approached them she looked at Alexander with huge, scared eyes "Alex whats happening?" She asked, her voice breaking. She was worried that he would act differently with the news of who her father was but she had never thought he would act this different.
The two men approached, they walked fast and Alexander came to them too. One of the men tried to punch Alexander, but the man failed. Alexander caught his wrist and started to twist it, suddenly he heard a crack and knew that wrist was of no use. The other man stood in shock but approached him still. "A mistake", Alexander said.
He hit the man yet the man got up and punched him in the stomach. Alexander flinched but didn't have time to think about that, Alexander tripped the man up and held him to the ground. The man struggled but he couldn't get up.
"Mabel, I need you to relax. These men were after you", he said softly, trying to ease her into it.
Mabel stared at Alexander, her eye still wide, not want to believe anything that he said. She started to back away from him, her eyes shifting between him and the men in the ground. Her chest was rising and falling quickly, as much as her corset would let her anyway and panic was written all over her face.
"Who sent you?!", Alexander yelled at the man on the ground. The man just snickered and yelled in Russian, probably swearing at him or cursing him. Alexander spoke to him in Russian and asked again. This time the man cooperated and told him. "Go!", Alexander yelled, letting him go and standing up. He turned around to see Mabel in a state," I know this is all a lot to take in", he said softly.
Mabel's huge, terrified eyes met his "Alexander what is happening?" She asked, now pinned against one of the alleyway walls "who were those men? And what did they want?" Her voice was quiet, barely noticeable above the loud mumble of London. A million question were running through Mabel's head and her corset was beginning to feel too tight.
Alexander looked at the sudden shock that Mabel's eyes held. He came closer to her slowly and carefully, he could tell she was very scared and he didnt want to push his limit. "They knew about your father, they wanted you so they could get to him", Alexander said slowly.
Mabel tried to take this all in but she couldn't think straight. The edges of her vision were starting to blur and her corset felt like a giant snake trying to squeeze the life from her. "I-i need to go" she staggered, slowly standing up off the wall "goodbye Mr Johnson, thank you for your help. It was very much appreciated." She began to walk away, trying to breathe normally but didn't even make it onto the street before blacking out from the lack of oxygen and collapsing to the ground.
Alexander's eyes widened as he saw her fall down, he tried to reach his arm out to her but he couldn't reach. It was like everything was on slow motion and everything was too quick for his eyes. He slid to the ground and caught her body before she fell completely on the floor and injured herself. Her head was in his lap and he pushed away her hair, he moved his hand to her dress and cut it opened with the knife. When he saw her corset he cut that open , hoping her breathing would be better.
Mabel drew a massive breath, her chest rising and falling again. After a few minuets the colour began to return to her cheeks and her eyes slowly fluttered open. Mabel looked up to see Alexanders' face and her eyes widened again "Alex?!?" She asked starting to panic. She quickly tried to sit up her hands running over the rips in her dress "what did you do?" She asked, looking from her dress to Alexander and back.
Alexander suddenly realised what he'd done and how Mabel might misunderstand him! "Oh no!", he said, blushing slightly," Your breathing was slow! A corset can cause faints and black outs". He looked around and then said, looking at the ground," I hope you don't misunderstand, my lady". Even though she probably would. He took off his jacket and then wrapped it around her, giving her a genuine smile and an apologetic one.
Mabel wrapped the jacket around her "Alex what... What have you done? What will my maids- my mother think? I can't be seen like this. By anyone. My father would murder me if he saw this in the paper" she said angrily, gesturing down at her dress. She hadn't meant to be so mean to him, he had probably saved her life. But she needed to go home and questions would be asked if she came in in a ripped dress or if she came in in a man's jacket. Her parents could not find out that she had been out with a young unknown man without a chaperone. "I'm not even meant to be out of the house without someone" she said a bit calmer now. She tried to push away from him gently, this was all so messed up.
Alexander could feel she was angry, and he didnt wonder or ask why. He knew. He looked down with a jokey expression on his face, he looked back up at Mabel's stressed and wandering eyes. "Don't worry, there is a dress shop near by, which is owned by a very good friend of mine", Alexander smiled smugly and raised an eyebrow.
He felt obnoxious for it but he couldn't help but to feel a bit more at ease and buoyant.
Mabel stood up, holding the jacket close around her ripped dress "can we get there without going onto the main street?" She asked hopefully "i can't be seen by anyone. Not coming out of an alleyway, with an unknown man, in a ripped dress" this was all so messed up but she was a woman, no one would listen to her side of the story if they saw her like this.
Alexander nodded," Of course". He understood exactly why Mabel didnt want to be seen, a women of her status and nobility was not able to wonder around with her dress half torn. People would gossip and things would turn bad. He took her hand and started to lead her to the shop, the back of it. He banged his fist on the door until it opened.
Mabel held the jacket around her and looked around cautiously. She prayed no one would walk past, weather they cared about what she was doing or not.
Suddenly the door slammed open."Margaret will you jus' do-", a women with ginger red hair and a pipe in her mouth came out and gave Alexander one look.
"Well, haven't seen you in a long time", she sighed," Come on in". Alexander smiled gratefully and then dragged Mabel in.
This time a women with pitch black hair and striking electric blue eyes came in,"Alexander!", she exclaimed, her accent making his name sound much better than it was.
"Merissa", Alexander smiled, he gave her a hug and said," I need your help", he looked at Mabel and then looked back at Merissa.
Mabel blushed a little and nodded and the women "i'm Mabel" she said, not daring to say her fathers' name again in public. She stood close to Alexander, knowing that he could protect her from anything. She looked up at him, her eyes praying for him to explain, she didn't know these women and although they seemed loverly, she was skittish to trust anyone after what had just happened.
Alexander felt that Mabel was uncomfortable, he knew why. She had just witnessed her own death, in a way. Alexander looked at her with soft eyes and then said," Mabel, Merissa is my cousin". Merissa slowly stepped forward, dragging her black, lace dress and then took Mabel's hand. "Come", she said," I will get you a new dress".
Merissa lead Mabel to a changing room as big as a high class hotel room, it was filled with dresses.
"Pick whichever you want, if is free", Merissa smiled.
