Well I loved it! A great, great read. But I guess I can see where those people are coming from.

I cried twice in this book and I gave it 5 stars.

I experienced very similar things in high school and I can relate.

She wasn't having a pity party, when you get that deep into depression you just want someone to relate and just hug you and care about you. (hide spoiler)]

I found this to be a very powerful book in so many ways. It was quite a while ago when I read it but I remember the impact this book had on me. (view spoiler)[ I am teacher in an elementary school and have seen a lot of bullying happen. As much as I tried to intervene and make a difference it is almost impossible to combat bullying. Many people blame the victim or minimize what is done to them or how they should feel about it. I have had many parents of bullies defend their child and deny that their child is doing anything wrong. It is really hard for a victim to ask for help because there are rarely any consequences to the bullies and then they get victimized more severely.

I didn't see her sending the tapes as a way to get pity from others, by then it was too late. Sending the tapes to the different people who, for one reason or another impacted her decision to end her life, obviously wouldn't do anything to help her but would help others and hopefully have a significant affect on who they would become moving forward. Hopefully the people who received the tapes would think about their actions towards others: whether they were bystanders watching, ignoring, laughing or allowing the bullying to happen, a teacher who didn't notice a cry for help or someone actively bullying and change how they behave. No one understands how every jab, no matter how minor it may seem, affects different people. (hide spoiler)] Bullying is so hard to combat and if everyone understood how every insult affects people, maybe they would make better choices in their lives. It takes very little to show compassion and kindness to others.

What people are saying, blaming Hannah for killing herself, doesn't really make sense. Sure, a getting her notes stolen or messing with her isn't enough to kill yourself. But all those things put together can really effect a person.

actually, I feel sorry for the girl, she don't feel being loved. without knowing there is someone who's there for her. But it's too late.

I understand everything that you are staying. However, when you are depressed you don't really think about everyone else. You get swallowed up by it. Looking for attention is different then what Hannah did. I can't really put words to it but I was the same in high school and got help in time. I didn't notice anyone trying to care or all the people that I would hurt. But most suicides have a note. They do this so people don't say "I don't get why" she wanted to tell everyone why, without telling the whole school.

I think that everyone deals with it differently. No one knew what she was going through. So she wanted to let the people know and make them feel bad. I'm not saying she did the right thing, but I also wouldn't say that the book wasn't astounding. It was one of my favorites.

I am still at the beginning. I'm liking this book so far, and Clay's relation to Hannah's death intrigues me.

Question: do you think the tape will circulate only to those on the list, or will it reach other people not involved on the tapes?

I finished as well... It was good and I literally couldn't put it down. I was addicted to finding out all the details of why Hannah did what she did.. It was kinda monotonous though.. Just a very straight line no ups and downs... I dunno it was good I gave it an even 4 star rating

I'm just halfway with it. But yes, monotonous is the word. So far, it's a depressing read. Yes, I feel that the things happened to Hannah wasn't good at all but it's not worth killing herself with, so far, I think.

It's quite addictive! I hardly put it down, if not only for the chores and the nagging parents I won't, really. :)) I'm sooo excited to know what Clay did to be included in the list.

I think so. Maybe he wasn't able to change Hannah's death, but he can do something with Skye.

This book made me think of my actions toward others. I'll be more careful next time, and encourage people more. Maybe I'll be like Clay, not give up on people showing the signs.

Yes it's definitely hard not to share it to people, even the ones I trust. But for me, if what I did was pretty bad, I'll be thinking twice.

Another question: Are the tapes better than writing a suicide note? And do you think people (other than Clay) did use the maps and visited the places involved?
