Do you still read?

I like my Kindle, but holding on to a real book is the best!
Neither do I, Christine! Not yet, at least. I spend many hours a day in front of a computer screen, so when I read, I like reading on paper. My eyes find it more restful.

In the discussion topic, "Who are your favorite authors?" I list some of my favorite authors, mystery and otherwise. You can also see what I've read recently in my books list.
I could never give up reading, because that is my first love. I still read 2-4 fiction books a month, plus lots of nonfiction--newspaper, magazines, blogs& emails, etc. I think it's a huge mistake for an author to stop reading, especially to stop reading in your genre.
You really need to keep on on trends, what's selling, what readers in your genre are looking for. Have you looked at the difference between modern fiction and classical literature? Due to our short attention spans these days, paragraphs and sentences are much shorter and the ratio of dialogue to narrative is higher. This is just one of many ways modern authors have to tailor their writing to modern readers.
