Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments No worries, the thread is there to check again if people want to. We can always make a comment in Group Announcements about it. And thank you for the group message!!

message 302: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Shirley & Jenny, thanks for adding the new books to the bookshelf! I totally forgot until this morning.

message 303: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments No problem, Leslie!

message 304: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments I am wondering if we should remove the October Spooky Booky Challenge from the group home page now that it is over. Thoughts?

message 305: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments I literally thought the same thing just 5 minutes ago. I'd say yes.

Yes, good idea.

Hi folks! :) I'm starting to get back into my routine so should be around more from now on. I will be able to do the fiction nominations and poll this month.

Do you reckon we should open a Christmas reading challenge, similar to the Spooky Booky Challenge? If so, I will probably start it on Sunday.

message 310: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry I meant the nominations and poll next month for January (can't edit on my phone).

Yes, I think a holiday challenge would be nice. My only concern is whether some people who aren't Christian might be offended... or maybe not. How about 'winter holiday' which could then include Chanukah and Kwanzaa?

message 312: by [deleted user] (new)

Oooooh good idea, I hadn't even thought of that. I'll start researching religious holidays that take place during December.

Yes probably it would be better this way!

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Hey guys, I was going to post a little mini-questionaire concerning everybody's reading year of 2013 in a few days.

So far it would have 3 rather simple categories: (to be clear, this is not about books released in 2013, but about books read in 2013)

Favourite books of the year
Least favourite books of the year
Most pleasant literary discovery made in 2013

If anyone is dying to add a question let me know;)

message 315: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Hi Jenny, great idea! I was going to suggest something similar myself! I was also thinking of the biggest surprise of the year, but I think that's pretty similar to your third question.

message 316: by [deleted user] (new)

Excellent idea Jenny! :)

Should be interesting, but seems a bit early for year-end roundups to me...

message 319: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments I was going to post it around the first of December. Still think it's too early? Let me know what you guys think.

I think December, the first week, is all right: you need some time to think about it

message 321: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments And good morning December! ;)

I've just reorganized our bookshelf and was wondering whether there was a verdict out already concerning our January/February reads for Classics and our January read for Fiction. ( I guess we start with Nightmare Abbey in January and poll on Doris Lessing?)
Also, should we send out a monthly group reads message?

message 322: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Good morning! Can't believe it's December already! Thanks for rearranging the bookshelf, Jenny. I think we are going with Nightmare Abbey and a poll on Doris Lessing, I think Becca's doing the poll but if not, I can do it. Do you want to do the group message this month? Otherwise, I'm happy to do it?

message 323: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments If you don't mind Shirley that would be great. Should we maby include seasonal poetry and play/playwright as well? It's Anna Akhmatova for poetry, not sure though what Leslie has picked for play but wrote a message yesterday to ask. So maybe once we know we could send it?

message 324: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments That's fine with me, although I believe the Oscar Wilde play is still current until 21st December, as Leslie is keeping to the seasons. I can still mention it as upcoming though!

message 325: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments True, I was going to do the same with poetry, maybe we can also add it to the next group mail then.

I can't believe we're already in december. We've done a good job up to now, don't you think? In a minute I'll be moving! ARGGG
For our next group read I think you're right Jenny: Nightmare Abbey and the poll with Lessing's books.
Do you need any help?

message 327: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments No Laura, you go ahead and move! I think you've got your hands full! ;) Hope it all goes well!

Shirley, no decision yet regarding the next group play but it can wait until the Jan. email anyway. For the Dec email message, the group classic is still Wuthering Heights...

message 330: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments ok, thanks Leslie, I have just sent a group email, hope it is all ok, as you can't preview it before you send it.

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Hey guys, currently wondering where to best place the winter-poet thread. Poetry? Readalong? Group reads? Let's have a poll on it! ;) (just kidding)

message 335: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments I'd say poetry.

Me too

message 338: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi all :) would any non-fiction books by Doris Lessong be appropriate in the poll? i only ask because it is technically the group fiction read. Thanks! :)

message 339: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Hi Becca. I think we should stick to fiction.

message 340: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Jenny, I thought that, but wasn't sure. There is one non-fiction book that has already been put to poll but I'll take it off and link the poll :)

message 341: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments I just edited both the du Maurier poll and the January Fiction poll, to make it so the January poll shows on the group home page. I did that because when I went to the polls by clicking on the link on the right, the January Fiction poll didn't appear. When I looked yesterday, I thought that it was because the voting didn't start until the 7th, but it still doesn't show up today. The only way I could get to it was following Becca's link.

Is this problem just me or is it general? Hopefully with it now showing on the group home page, more people will vote but it would be good to have it appear with the other polls too...

message 342: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Nevermind, it is showing up now in the polls link.

message 343: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments I think this happens if the 'feature the poll on group home page' isn't ticked when creating the poll, I was wondering about that too. Thanks to you Leslie I have now on second attempt also found where to edit a poll should I ever need to. I am slightly confused as to why the Daphne du Maurier poll is now nearly at the bottom end of all the polls, but since we are considering it closed it doesn't matter I guess.

Seen the poll and voted as well: better do it when I can, these days I never know how and when I'll be able to come here.
Sorry again if I'm not so working and helping, but I've started packing and even if we already don't know where to put the boxes, we're not even close to half of the things... I won't survive, I know!!!!

message 345: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Yes you will!!! Sending a pep dance your way (equivalent to a pep talk, imagine me doing Maori squats and beating my chest).

It's 6 of us, I'd say we'll manage ;)

Don't worry, although we will miss seeing you here as frequently, we will be able to carry on. Packing up during the holiday season must be hard - I will send you positive thoughts!

I've found out how to take away the ugly Moderator highlighting thing. Would you like me to or should we just leave it? It can be turned on again at any time.

I for one would like it to be gone - hate it! But I suspect that in a few days I won't even notice it, so I am willing to go with the majority opinion.
