Hi everyone,

Just to let you all know that I may be "away" for 2 weeks starting from Thanksgiving (October 14). I'll be in Victoria on Vancouver Island doing school-related stuff. Supposedly we will have full 9-5 days, and group meetings and assignments in the evenings. I'm hoping I'll have time to read and come on goodreads. I'm being quite optimistic as I've packed 6 or 7 books:) Anyway, just a heads-up in case I'm quiet again (though the Non-Fiction section is also quite quiet).

Hi folks! Sorry I haven't been around much as of late, as well as my internet being down, my optomology hospital appointment on Thursday turned in to a nightmare - I had to get a brain scan (they found nothing thank goodness!) and I've been referred to a neurologist. I also have all my Uni work to do and I'm off on holiday soon (can't come soon enough!) so I will be sort of absent until the 15th November. I will try and pop in when I'm at Uni.

Becca, that really sounds like a scary week, good to know it all turned out to be OK in the end. Do you have to wait long for your appoinment? Hope we'll have you back real soon bright eyed and bushy tailed. Will be sending positive vibes over to the Island.

@Jenny - I haven't got my appointment in yet :-( hopefully it isn't long. No it's ok I think I'll be good for the theme challenge threads but thanks :) Laura has sent me her chosen theme.

@Shirley - Thanks - I definitely need that holiday! It was 4 weeks on that Wednesday there until I fly out :-) Thanks for sending out the poll reminder! I think we should send out a mail when it opens in future, as people might not have the notifications enabled for the group so therefore won't see the announcement. Maybe that will 'up' the participation.

@Laura - yes probably general discussion would be ok.

I've adjusted our rule pop-up so that it only shows when you are a new member, dely and Julia mentioned that they thought it popping up with every post was very disturbing which I have to say I agree with. Since it is new members causing problems usually I guess it is enough this way. Let me know if you disagree. As Jean mentioned in another thread, there's always the option to adjust if we according to the amount of spam we get.
If we stick to the only pop-up for new members thing, would it be smart to have a short thread in General where we copy the rules so you can check them again also as an old member?

I have set up the nominations thread for the December group fiction read. I see you have taken out the rules pop up box, Jenny. I think it's a good idea to try it like that but I think we should have a rules thread so we can refer to them if need be. If it becomes a problem, I would have no qualms about putting them back again. I personally don't think they get in the way, but I suppose it depends on the device you use.

No, not yet as I am still working my way through all the unread items...I was also thinking we should send out an email to highlight the November reads and also the new Fiction nominations thread, as it can act as a good reminder for everyone.

Good idea. Maybe we should include the group rules at the end after a short statement such as "Since we have decided to disable the pop-up box of group rules, a copy is included here for your future reference."
