After reading this collection, what are your initial thoughts and impressions about this version of Wolverine? How does it compare to today's version in the comics?

I mourn how story/plot is a forgotten, abused, stepchild in comic books today. Prior 2 this series (also Kitty Pryor & Wolverine); readers/fans had hints of how Logan balanced his rage & humanity and reasons why (friendship/lust for Jean Grey).
This Frank Miller series opened the door to the balance of power that Logan struggles 2 find while people try 2 give and take from him.
The one dimension comic story related the love that 'wild' Logan has for the custom rich society; while it stands at odds with his wild nature yet soothes it. The movie took the cheap laughs of Logan bathing....how shallow.
I agree with Dione that the plotting in this comic is either a lost art or a kind of writing that today's comic readers and writers are disinterested in pursuing. So much is focused on exteriors rather than interiors today. Also when you read these comics you observe characters not surfaces, people not paper dolls.
Yes! Some comics really explore the inner dialogue of characters (Simone's Batgirl comes immediately to mind), but there are so many books out there with multiple characters coming in and out of the story. Those moments of reflection are oftentimes skipping in favor of action.
I think the movie didn't do as good a job as the comic did really exploring Logan and his inner workings. I thought the movie was fun, but didn't really capture the comic series.
