Electronic Arts is about to release The Sims 3 and introduce a mostly online marketing campaign that uses social networking to showcase new features of the game.

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments “We really felt like the ability to create human beings, to give them a soul if you will, was really exciting, so we wanted to come up with some ways that people could define the personalities of their character,” Mr. Bell said.

Hmmmm.... dare I even suggest that we're playing gods here? Or perhpas simply just mimicking on a crude scale a mirror of what we are made from? Interesting times.

This thougth brought to you by your friendly neighborhood cosmic chic. ;) (You knew I couldn't resist, didn't you Lar?)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments (This was mostly for your benefit Matthew. Wouldn't want to disappoint.)

message 5: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I did know that, Sher.

message 6: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments I thought so. Have you ever actually played Sims? I haven't.

message 7: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I have not. Has Matthew?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I've heard of it, but who has time?

message 9: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Not I. I'm far too busy doing this.

message 10: by Matt (new)

Matt | 819 comments I played the first version before any of the expansion packs, and that is pretty much the reason that I gave up gaming. It's too much fun in that "experimental monkey being given all of the crack that he wants until he keels over" sort of way.

It gets weird with that game when one starts thinking about all of the time spent not living a real life to build the status of this little life that does not exist beyond one's hard drive.

message 11: by Jackie "the Librarian" (last edited May 14, 2009 10:05PM) (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I get that here, I think. Although the people here are real. You all ARE real, right?

message 12: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell I try to keep it real.

message 13: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Um, I think I'd better double-check Jackie.
...
Yea, pretty sure. My husband said, "Oh yea... you're definitely real." I wonder what he meant by that? :)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments :::pinches self:::
Okay, I checked. I'm real, too. Which is Spanish for royal!

We still haven't heard from Larry, though...

message 15: by Félix (last edited May 15, 2009 04:48AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm not ... uh ... I don't ... I can't ... *RESET* ... I can be "real" if y'all want me to be.

Larry wrote: "I'm not ... uh ... I don't ... I can't ... *RESET* ... I can be "real" if y'all want me to be.

Although I've never met him, I can vouch for Larry. he's as real as they get. ;-D.

message 17: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Thank you Jim. You are very kind.

::pinches arm to make sure this is all real::

That's what she said :-).

What'd I do?

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Hahha! Nothing. I just think you're the cutest.

message 27: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Heidi wrote: "What'd I do?"

That's what she said.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Sally wrote: "Hahha! Nothing. I just think you're the cutest. "

BEAMING... from ear-to-ear.

message 29: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Heidi wrote: "BEAMING... from ear-to-ear."

That's a rather scary image.

message 30: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments still beaming...

message 31: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Beaming is good.

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I thought I'd insert an image of someone grinning from ear to ear, but I think I used some bad search terms. I'm now trying to unsee the creepy Jokeresque pictures I just saw.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Reginald!

message 35: by Knarik (last edited May 15, 2009 12:38PM) (new)

Knarik what a big mouth!
Larry is certainly real.

message 36: by Matt (new)

Matt | 819 comments I can't decide if he makes me laugh or creeps me out more. The eyes look a little evil, don't you think?

message 37: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Knarik wrote: "Larry is certainly real."

Thank you, friend.

message 38: by Knarik (new)

Knarik Yes, his eyes look evil+ they are green, which, I heard is the eye-colour of cunning people. ( I don't say so,and I don't want anybody to be offended)

message 39: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Maybe his eyes are green because he eats a lot of vegetables. That's what Erykah Badu would say, in any case.

message 40: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Now I want to make a bumpersticker that says "What Would Badu Do?" and market it to her fans.

message 41: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Who the hell is Reginald?

message 42: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments He's the embodiment of a Shebang, I believe.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Reginald is tadpole's shebang, and his picture in on the cover, Sally.

message 44: by Matt (new)

Matt | 819 comments Stupid story that you all probably don't want to hear...

I've had this conversation with several different people. When you call a support number for most any computer manufacturer these days the call center is located in India. So you get this guy on the phone who is obviously Indian but they make him go by some slightly obscure American name. Several times I have talked to various Reginalds, which appeals to my goofy sense of humor. When I couldn't think of a proper shebang title that was the first thing to pop into my head.

Um...yeah, it was probably better without the story, huh?

message 45: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments NO! NO!!! That's a great story, tad. It amuses me every time I read it.

message 46: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
No, I love it Tad, it kind of makes me adore you more.

What I want to know now: where did the picture come from?

message 47: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments It's a good thing to know that everyone here is REAL.
I worry sometimes that all I'm doing is chatting, and sometimes arguing, with just my computer.

Good story tad.

He posted the link somewhere on here - he's the before guy on some weightgain pill website.

message 49: by Matt (new)

Matt | 819 comments It's the facebook pic of Ryan Clauson, who is one of those "pick up chicks" online course gurus.

His face made the cover because I was obsessed with this video that week. The first 1:30 may be the funniest/scariest thing that I have seen on the interwebz in a long time...

message 50: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments So it's not the guy from the weightgain pill website?!! I swear I didn't make that up! OMG, I SAW the webpage with my own two eeeeeyyyyyes!

tadpole, that guy in the video seems like a douchebag. I think it's the formulated generic ploy that seems predatory which makes me think so. I dunno... I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
