Mary Filmer | 119 comments You may be right but I know for a fact that I was told not to advertise my book on the sites. But then I could have done it wrong. Good luck with your book, I hope you sell a lot of books. Mary Filmer Children's Author. Mary Sumeridge Beginnings by Mary Filmer

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 848 comments It depends where. Some groups have specific places to promote books and services usually within those threads it is ok.

Regina Shelley (reginas) | 135 comments Mary, people promote all the time on these boards, but there are rules that you need to familiarize yourself with before you do so.

With respect, spamming boards with ads for your work with no regard for the context isn't a great way to get exposure. You'll get exposure, all right, just probably not the kind you want.

If I look at my message feed and see the same person spamming every single thread I'm on with the same thing, it's really going to turn me off. And I think that is what they're talking about when they tell you where and where not to advertise. Check the rules of the group, check the climate of the thread, and make sure you're in the right place and know what's going on. Don't hijack other people's promotion threads. Follow the rules and get the kind of exposure you want, not the kind you don't want.

I'm willing to bet that if you do these things, nobody will mind if you advertise your books. :-)
