Do you want to organize it this month Bette? I don't think it is too late...

Please Bette, do. I really can't think about it from here, without my pc

I can do it if you want. I can set it up now.

message 857: by [deleted user] (new)

If you want to Alannah, you can. Otherwise I should be able to do it.

I don't mind.

If you're happy to do it that would be really great. I will concentrate on the group read polls!

message 860: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments It needs to be done via Event Invitation and you need to be a Moderator to use that function!

Heather, if it's not too much trouble.

message 861: by [deleted user] (new)

I will set it all up now

message 862: by Pink (last edited Aug 31, 2015 03:28PM) (new)

Pink Could somebody take a look at the date for The Apology. There's a few different editions, with slightly differing titles, but they all seem to say first published in 1925, which I'm assuming should be much earlier?

Gill | 5719 comments Pink, I think your question would be better on the Librarians to the Rescue thread.

That's where I meant to post it! Thanks Gill, I'll repost there now :)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments Our group Readathon is due to start 26th September. Laura usually posts the Event for me, she knows how. Using the Event Invitation ensures that every member of AAB is aware of the Readathon. Please ask Laura or let me know and I'll send you a PM. Ta:)

I'll see who can send out the invites.

message 867: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments @Leslie Any Moderator can create an Event Invitation. The info about the Readathon can be found on any of the previous months Invites. see link for last Sept: https://www.goodreads.com/event/show/...

I was thinking of doing tomorrow when back to Perugia

message 869: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) I haven't started reading the book yet, but I was wondering, don't we have a discussion for our Classics read for October/November Around the World in Eighty Days? I couldn't find one...

message 874: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ Thanks, Gil.

Leslie | 16369 comments Maelanie wrote: "What does a moderators do?"

Here are a few dictionary definition of moderator which apply to this situation:

"a member of an online message board or electronic mailing list with privileges and responsibilities to approve or reject messages and uphold the terms of service."

"someone who leads a discussion in a group and tells each person when to speak : someone who moderates a meeting or discussion"

Basically we make sure that the discussions here follow the stated rules & that no-one is posting inappropriately. Luckily, the members of this group are generally very polite & civilized even when they disagree so we mods don't have to do much!

message 876: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Jenny - I've sent you a pm - (just saying it here just in case you get the discussions up first)

message 877: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Jean, thanks! I've put the correct link in the Group Announcement folder, unfortunately GR only allows for one broadcast message a day, but I will send one out again tomorrow ( in the meantime the 'who is cooler' poll might see it's finest and busiest day ever ;) Apologies!

message 878: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Oh dear :/

message 881: by Gill (new)

Gill | 5719 comments Thanks, Bette. The original post seems to have gone now, so I have also deleted yours which contains its content. Thanks for letting us know.

message 882: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments Thanks, Gill. I sent a PM to both Laura and Leslie before I remembered about this thread:/ Maybe one of them posted it. I found it really unsettling given today's Paris, Belgium, UK, USA and AU current crisis. That member seems to have posted a similar comment in quite a few groups and no other comment. Maybe GR is not the right place for that member.

I can't find the discussion for The hangman's daughter. I don't remember when it was read either. Can you help me locate it?
Thanks :))

I don't remember when we read it as a group either as I had already read it by then. However, I did find the thread & here is the link:

message 891: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Isn't message 608 in the link provided (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) advertising or promotion of a book?

message 892: by LauraT (new)

LauraT (laurata) | 14371 comments Mod
We tend to talk about new releases if they're from authors we like/appreciated from other of their works...
What we rather don't like is self promotion: if you write a book and say yourself is good and worth buying.
This is how I see the matter...

message 893: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie OK, if that is how you see it. I deleted my comment. Thanks, Laura.
