I wonder if it might be worth the mods choosing the first couple of seasonal authors to get it going, rather than have polls. Maybe we could start with someone who's written lots and lots, likeCharles Dickens

Yes, I quite like the idea, we could certainly try this for 2015. I was wondering if bi-monthly would be better, because although it would mean six per year, rather than four, it would mean slightly less prolific authors could be chosen at some stage. Quite like the idea of starting with Dickens.
Yes, seasonal could be better. Dickens is a good idea, even if - personally speacking - I've finished his works this year ad I wanted a break!!!!

I like Alannah's idea, a good way to expand our reading, also leaving it open to pick a book by the author that both interests us and that is accessible to us in our diverse locations.

I like Alannah's idea too. I will throw out the suggestion that the authors should maybe be a bit less famous then a Dickens or Austen type that most people will have already read on their own.
Just popping in, not actually asking the mods anything, but saying to Laura that if she wants a break from Dickens then maybe she should check her temperature to make sure she's not feverish ... ;)

For istance for the XIX Century England we could see something of George Eliot or Elisabeth Glaskell
I personally wouldn't mind big authors like Dickens or Austen, or some of the not so usual picks. Perhaps we could do a different century, or continent for each season, which would avoid duplicating the same type of author each time, such as white 19th century English male authors!
I like that spin on Alannah's idea Pink! A variety of eras and continents would keep it interesting.

Agreed!
Agreed!
Greg wrote: "Shirley, I like that idea of the runners up poll :)"oh, that's good to know, I have just set it up!
I like the idea of a seasonal author, but would prefer authors that are not well known. Something new to discover.
Usually Bette was thinking about it; I was only substituting her these two months she couldn't handle it.
I'll ask her ...
I'll ask her ...
I don't mean to push, I just thought we would have had threads set up by now and the emails sent out.
I thought I had sent the mail!!! I have problems with my computer. I'll give a look again. And Bette had seid she was opening the threas. I'll see to that as well.
Thanks Alannah
Thanks Alannah

It's ok. I've just received the event email.

Quick question; I've made a couple of posts within the group, but the rules still pop up every time I make a comment. Is there a way to prevent them from popping up every time?
Julia wrote: "Quick question; I've made a couple of posts within the group, but the rules still pop up every time I make a comment. It used to be the former in this group, but there were a bunch of spam posts going up, so the mods set it to every time.
Thanks for explaining amber! Julia, we might change the setting back to what it was in a bit since the flood of spam seems to have seized. I have to admit that I've developed a sense of selective blindness to it, hope it doesn't disturb you to much.
LauraT wrote: "I've seen it dely: I had not understood whatit meant!!!"Lol, me neither! It was written in a very bad English so I was pretty sure it was spam.
I'm not sure how the group challenges work. Has the 2015 challenge been decided yet? I came too late to do the Around the World Challenge but I really like that idea. I will have to try it! For 2014 I read 24 books from 24 genres. It was great fun but I am looking for something different in 2015.
Everyone is friendly on this group and I am enjoying the interaction and getting to know other fans of books.

I think that it has been decided but not posted yet. The group challenges are completely optional. People who want to participate can comment in the challenge thread and/or keep track in their own personal thread...
I think that was one set by Becca, wasn't it? Have any of the mods heard from her recently? I have sent a couple of messages, as I knew she said she hoped to get more involved after her course finished, but she hasn't posted anything in Goodreads at all since AUGUST. It's really rather worrying ...

OK, I have managed to find Becca on "tumblr" and "twitter", both of which she is commenting on a lot at the moment. So clearly all is well with her :) And it's just that she is not so interested here.I am not in either of those, and don't want to sign up just for that purpose, so can't actually message her there. I think she may also be in "Librarything", but ran out of time to search.
I was going to post a link, but perhaps it would be better not to. If one of you mods just says here, I will message you her details.
