That was hi-larious! Ty, Howard!
No spoilers, people! I haven't seen it yet. Will remedy that as soon as I can get away for a few moments by myself. I think I need to sit alone in a dark theater to truly appreciate this one.
I went to see this on Wednesday. I love all the Marvel features even the Incredible Hulk (which was the weakest). However, I'm afraid I was very disappointed with Thor 2 :( I give it 6/10.
There is fun to be had but is too scattered and wildly uneven. It had terrible dialogue and didnt flow well for me. There is lots of humour but the whole story took a turn for slapstick and downright insane mayhem. that just made me numb.
Yes, Marvel films are not to be taken seriously but the difference between this and the other Marvel films is that they had better direction, more finesse, better flow, slicker action, and snappier dialogue.
Thank god for Loki to deliver the best moments (We Brits do churn out some of the classiest villains, huh?!?)
The effects are awesome and there is energy. Thats not enough. The storyline is poor and the romance is terrible. Natalie Portman is a great actress, love her in many indy films but like in Star Wars, she does not make a great romantic interest.
There was a great hilarious irony at one point in the movie though, which myself and the whole audience laughed and loved in the cinema I saw it at, in Greenwhich, London...because to our shock, it bizarrely features heavily in the film! Really bizarre as we travel to different realms in the Universe and there is Thor, right outside our cinema!
On a positive note, my thoughts appear to be of a very small minority according to IMDB and Rottentomatoes, so chances are you will very much enjoy this wild film :)
Oh and as usual with every Marvel movie, stay to the end of the credits for some extra scenes. In fact there is a scene midway through credits and one at the end. The midway one is very much for comic book readers but the end credit scene actually gives a main wrap up...as well as a very funny bit.
Oh Eeby and Jacqueline, I think there is enough of Thor and Loki to satisfy your thirst :)

Perhaps the Myth was misapplied as discussed in post #'s 43 & 45:

Hopkins seems half-hearted about playing Odin. Russo was great as Frigga, but again they didn't give her enough screen time.
So much jumping around, back and forth, Jane pined for 2 frigging years???? REALLY? OMG. Get a life, girl. You're an astrophysicist not a playboy bunny.
I loved the Loki and Thor twists, but overall it just felt too shallow given all the angst they had to play with.
Why, Marvel, WHY?!!!?

It's what I would expect from a typical Marvel movie. No Oscar winning acting performances and below average dialogue, but it was true to comic book fashion. It was full of action and great special effects, of course it was also full of over the top story lines and cheesy dialogue, but that's what makes it a comic. Right.
Taken for what it is "just good fun" I really liked it and was not disappointed. I have often found myself bored at times in other comic films and I did not find that here. There were definitely some good one liners that I though was an improvement from the first Thor film and is more typical in other Marvel films, the (view spoiler) was hilarious, and another great Stan Lee cameo.
Looking forward to the time travel element in the new X Men installment, which was a featured preview before the film.
