Up to chapter 10 (view spoiler)[ So far, I really like the book. It’s very entertaining. Daemon’s a jerk but Dee is awesome and funny. Kat’s okay for a main character. She’s not annoying and tolerable which is what I was afraid of in the beginning. I actually like the part that she’s a book addict and has a review blog. It makes her relatable. I can’t wait till we find out more about what Dee and Daemon are because obviously they’re not normal. (hide spoiler)]

Finished! (view spoiler)[ Ugh! That ending! I would have given it 4 Stars! Really. This book would have deserved it. The Luxen was interesting and I even somewhat liked the main character. But after she said that she doesn’t believe Daemon’s feelings for her because of their alien bond, then I had to drop it to a 3. I understood her denial in the beginning. Daemon was a jerk and she didn’t want to be with someone like that even if she was attracted to him. But after everything that happened and everything Daemon’s done for her, it’s pretty safe to say that his feelings are real. Yes it’s a bit harsh to drop a whole star for that but I can already tell that the next book is going to be filled with her denial of Daemon’s feelings, using the excuse of the alien bond. Other than that, it was still highly enjoyable. (hide spoiler)]

Ok so, I liked it. I think the love/hate thing was ok. Maybe I've just read too many similar stories lately. The tension build-up was good, but I did get annoyed with the seesaw between nice guy and jerk. I suppose the tension wouldn't have been as good without it but my eyes are a little tired of rolling. I loved the friendship that developed between Katy and Dee. Poor Dee just wants a real friend. Other than Katy ignoring her for a few days after Daemon made out with her, I think she's been a pretty good friend. I'd like to see how that relationship grows.

I'm also curious about what this bond is that Katy has with Daemon now. Can she draw on his powers? Are they "mated" somehow? (I cringed a little as I typed that.) Will they have to make out every time she starts glowing? (hide spoiler)]

Just a thought, do you think Jennifer L Armentrout has been accused of plagiarism? Her Covenant series is so similar to Vampire Academy, especially the first couple books. And the whole time I was reading Obsidian, I thought it seemed similar to I Am Number Four.
Not saying I don't like her books, I just thought about similarities.

Aly, no I don't think it is plagiarism. Similarities are ok. I've read so many books that are super similar to others, but the authors have somehow made the stories their own through different twists or having completely different characters in the same situation, etc.

I get it and I'm not saying she did copy stories. I just remember reading Half Blood and being like woah.

It actually really interests me when authors take stories and make them their own. I was reading recently, and one of the writing exercises Mr. King suggested was taking the typical story of a woman leaving her husband because of cheating, abuse, whatever, and manipulating it in different ways to make it new. Whatever it was that he suggested, I immediately thought of Collen Hoover's as being the best example I've read of that writing exercise. It was so cool.

I also think about how many fake-fiance plots and secret heir plots I've read. The trick is to making them your own, right?
