I'm a little worried. After I ranted to no end about the spinelessness and wimpiness of the protagonist during the buddy read for The Fallen Star, Sarah warned me that Katy is even worse in the wimpy category... I have no problem with girls who start off wimpy -- but after proving themselves stronger than they thought and beating incredible odds, I hate it when they fall back into wimpy mode and depend on their knight in shining armor to come save them. Hope that won't happen here... But you may get to experience me rant... just thought I'd give you the heads up... :D.

Oh my God I couldn't agree more. I feel like I've gotten enough of that from Twilight and Hush Hush and Evermore, and Twilight is the only book series where I sort of try to overlook it as a guilty pleasure :P

anyway I'm on Chapter 10 now (view spoiler)[ I know they are trying to make everything about Daemon and Dee seem mysterious and all, but when that man Matthew or something came up to Katy and was all like 'yeah why are you hanging out with her, you can't do that' I feel like that was also quite an overused book trope where the girl gets really offended and whiny about not being treated well enough. I'm also super worried that all this book is about is the romance and stuff. I love books like Vampire Academy or TMI or The Lunar Chronicles where although romance has a significant part to play, it's not like that's all the story is about. I would like to see more world-building and backstory in Obsidian than I'm getting at the moment.

Just starting the book. Only read a chapter so far but I can tell that I'm going to love this book. The exchange alone between the two main characters was golden.

Chapter 8 (view spoiler)[Man, they seem to have that hate to love trope going and I love that trope. Also, Dee is an angel and I adore her friendship with Katy already. She's just so sweet but she interrupted Katy and Daemon's moment. -sigh- (hide spoiler)]

She was warned by multiple people about his behavior, but she still insisted on going to the dance with him. Then when he behaved the way he did at the dance she still went with him to the after party. So stupid. I'm glad Daemon was there to stop him, but why did she go with him to the Field in the first place? (hide spoiler)]

Awww no worries at least you read it :) and I understand what you mean. I've only read the first book before so this is a reread for me and I'm seeing it differently than I did the first 2/3 times I read it

It is very tropey and Daemon is quite problematic in the first book in particular, but I found it improved in Onyx and he may just be a new book boyfriend. I also really liked the female friendships in this.

Ch 1 - 3: Okay, I get that we're supposed to dislike Daemon but somehow fall in love with him towards the end, but good grief must he be SOOOO unlikeable? And if they're meant to be blending in, his attitude is doing the exact opposite of that.

She seems preppy to me and that's not really the type I like to read about. Daemon is definitely interesting, and I agree that it seems like he might control weather at a minimum. I wasn't sure about this book even though it had high ratings. Maybe more action and explaination will be in those chapters. I'll read to that chapter. I don't have much planned today so I have plenty of time.
