Have you read the house of night series? Up to book 7 it was great... First one is Marked. :)

This is a very good series and the last book is due out later this year. It doesn't have vamps but it is similar to the VA series.

Black city is definitely a must read vampire book. But it's only a trilogy. But it's an amazing book. Book 2 has just come out so I can't wait for that.
Morganville vampire series is amazing as we'll it's more like vampire academy but it has 15 books an the series.

I agree that Morganville has the same feel as VA. It's one of my favorite series!

Another I can think of is Dark Elite by Chloe Niel. I really like this one, the characters grow on you.

And if you haven't tried it, The Mortal Instruments series is right next to VA on my bookshelf. Not that they are very similar, they just have that same adventurous/forbidden romance/friendship feel.
