Dawn | 46 comments I'm not sure when this book was published but I believe I read it sometime in the early two-thousands. I'm trying to remember most of the book so this post may contain spoilers. But I hope not. It was a fiction novel about a language teacher who was teaching english to Japanese people I think and she ends up building a friendship with one of her students who is an artist. In the book the teacher is dealing with the death of her first child who was hit by a car and trying to decide if she should tell her young son, who was born after the baby died, about his older sister whom he never knew. At some point the young artist dies and the language teacher becomes the prime suspect in her murder but the teacher claims the girl committed suicide. I believe there were some parts where the artist tried to seduce the teacher and her husband and I think she may have slept with the son. I think there was something about a painting she did of the son. If anyone knows the name to this novel please help me out!

Was it more literary fiction, or mass market? Was it set in Japan, U.S., or somewhere else?

When you say she may have slept with the son, you mean her own son?

Dawn | 46 comments Whoops! No I meant the student slept with the teacher's son. I believe it was literary fiction and I'm sure it took place in the U.S.
