Dawn | 46 comments Hello I'm searching for a book that may have come out in the nineties about a young white woman who is married with a young son. She is struggling to deal with the death of her younger son in an accident and befriends her black maid who has also lost a child which was taken from her after she was raped by a white man and her father, who was once a preacher refused to let her keep her mixed child. The black maid is in a sort of gossip group with other black maids while trying to get information about her missing son. When her white employer finds out about it the two become friends both dealing with a similar loss. I've posted this on other websites and everyone thinks it is the novel The Help. It's not. This book came out much earlier and is much better. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

I haven't read it, but Right as Rain: A Novel is often suggested as a readalike for The Help and has similar themes, so maybe? Published 2004.

Dawn | 46 comments No it's not that one.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments The View from Delphi The View from Delphi by Jonathan Odell sounds like it. It was written in 2004, though

Dawn | 46 comments I think that's the one! I'm going to read it to make sure but I'm almost positive that's it. You guys are good!
