Well, I kind of consider there were barriers re Irene in G's writing that he wasn't able or willing to overcome or perhaps even recognize.

Kim (kimmr) | 317 comments I don't think the portrayal of Irene is indicative of a barrier or flaw in Galsworthy's writing. After all, he enters directly into the thoughts and feelings of other female characters. It seems to me that Galsworthy deliberately chose to portray Irene through the reactions to her of other characters because so much of the dramatic conflict in the narrative arises from the effect she has on other characters and now they feel about her.
