"I-I-I'm sorry..... I shouldn't have asked. I've only known of my parents death, and my brothers." Mallory admitted slowly, she shaking as if cold. She leaned into him, closing her eyes, the pain in her middle, chest and heart was a pain almost unbearable. "How are you running so fast? I mean I know your an elf and all, but this seems like your even faster than the average elf. I-I read the dictionary, on Middle Earth." She said, trying to change the thought of death.
He raised an eyebrow. "There's a dictionary? On Middle Earth? How very peculiar." Then he shrugged. "I don't know. I suppose I've got a bit of muscular endurance. And being an elf, who has been, by the way, on this ears for a couple thousand years, also helps."
"Yes a dictionary, I have it inside my satchel if you'd like to read it sometime. Reading is always good for this mind, and soul." Mallory offered, trying to be kind and caring. She hadn't started on the right foot with Legolas. "Ah, I see. You are old, so it says." She joked. Mallory sighed, looking up at him. "I'm sorry. I treated you awfully. I just blamed you for-" she paused. "her." She finished. She was now gripping his arms, her nails digging into his skin. "How- much- longer?" She groaned, squeezing her eyes shut.
He smiled a bit. "I should very much like to read it sometime. I think the same about reading. That's why I read so much." He said. "It's- alright. You didn't know. When my mother died I solely blamed my father for him. Perhaps I ought to apologise to him." He sighed. "Perhaps two hours…"
"Change that to one." A voice said, accompanied by the thundering of hooves on the barren plain. Anne rode beside them at a slow gallop.
Legolas stopped. "Perfect timing, Anne."
She grinned and said, "He's all yours. The horse, I mean." It was a chestnut bay stallion. Legolas mounted the horse, still carrying Mallory, and looked down at Anne. "Thank you."
She shrugged. "No problem."
"Where will you go now?"
"I don't know we'll see. Now go!" At the sound of her voice, the horse started off at a canter, and then Legolas drove it into a fast gallop.
Anne watched them go with crossed fingers.

"Thank you, Anne." Mallory had whispered, before they had left. More blood was coming from the wound. Mallory winced, and held tightly onto her satchels strap, needing something to grip. She tried taking deep breaths, gasping for breath occasionally.
Anne gave a nod at Mallory before they left, whispering back, "Stay strong."
She turned away from their fading figured and started back towards the crystal city.
