Can't remember the name od a book a read in highschool..

Hi all,

I started reading heavily in highschool and worked my way through our schools sci-fi fantasy section. Among those books was a triligoy (at least I think it was a trilogy, not 100% sure though) about a male angel and his female dog but I can't for the life of me remember the name of the books or the author. The books were old I think back then when I read them which was sometime in the 80's.

About all I remember is the angels power was connected to his virginity and he could talk to his dog and vice versa and when she was in heat he had to lock her in a cage and leave his dwellings as she would be unable to stop herself from spouting lewd comments to him. I also remember the dog dies eventually in a snow storm by freezing to death or somesuch when the angel becomes angry and forgets about the dog not being immune to cold. I do believe he loses his "wings" aswell but eventually gets them back.

It wasn't a urban fantasy like is popular nowadays for example like Gena Showalter or Nalini Singh but more in the older fantasy genre.

I know it is not much to go on but I am hoping this will ring a bell for someone out there and they can let me know the name of the author or book/s.

This sounds like the Damiano trilogy by R.A. MacAvoy. The individual books are Damiano, Damiano's Lute, and Raphael.
