I just finished the book and I forgot how much I loved the book. I didn't see it that way, other than when Jaine thought Sam was a drunk, there was a lot of sexual chemistry that they were free to act on (with the exception of Jaine having to go on the pill, but they knew ultimately it would culminate is a sexual act.
Carlin and Zeke, on the other hand, did not have that aforementioned knowledge. They were having to resist the chemistry, not to mention, Carly was trying desperately not to get close to anyone, much less Zeke.

This was the response I got from linda howard and linda jones, so they will not be writing about spencer,.

Zeke doesn't challenge Carlin’s terms: cash, dead bolts, and no questions. It is easy to see that she’s a woman in trouble. Problem is, he’s so blindsided by his attraction to her he can’t think straight. Zeke tries to stay all business, no complications—but that game plan is sabotaged the second Carlin gets under his skin. And when her terrifying past follows her to the ranch, Carlin faces a heartbreaking choice: run away from the man she loves, or put him in the crosshairs of a madman.
