Ya it's a very fast paced book especially bc the chapters switch back and forth between paths. It's impossible to put down!
The switching back and forth took me a little while to get used to. At first it was a little confusing to me but now I kind of have a grasp on it. I am at the beginning of chapter ten and trying to wait for everyone else to catch up before I start on the next week's chapters but it is so hard!
Course, I probably read it to fast to begin with and have to wait for everyone else to catch up anyway!
I finished the first chunk of chapters on Friday. Definitely a struggle not to keep going but I will restrain myself because I know I can get spoilery when I get confused. : ) So far, I think it's awesome and I'm normally not this fast to feel awesome for a book.

I started it yesterday morning and got to the end of chapter 9 in no time and was like, Now what?
How do you guys feel about the world? The book feels like a contemporary novel, but I guess technically it's like Sci Fi or Paranormal or something.
Lisa wrote: "I am feelin the same way. I started it yesterday morning and got to the end of chapter 9 in no time and was like, Now what?"Well... I started something else to bide my time. And now, I've finished that. Ha! So time to scour my shelves for something else!

I was thinking about that, too. It feels futuristic. But I suppose alternate reality of some sort is more accurate since the Norm world doesn't have that futuristic feel.
It definitely has a futuristic feel in the compound, so I am not sure how to class it, because, the Norm world definitely does not seem to have the same feel to it at all. Is anyone else all confused because of the back and forth though? That has kind of thrown me a little.
I had a little bit of a problem with the changing every chapter. I think I just expected her to see all of one option and then the other.
It took me a bit to get used to, but once I realized each chapter heading definition either had NORM or PARA in it, that helped a bit...LOL
I was thinking the same thing Melissa, about how it felt like a contemp but wasn't. I really like it so far. It would be an urban fantasy maybe? We really don't get many of them in YA, but they are prevalent in adult.

Yes!! I was so excited when I realized it....LOL.
The para world almost feels dystopian because it's a government type control, but it's really not dystopian at all by definition...
I get the fantasy part for sure, and that's why I say UF with the contemp feel, but I don't even know if YA books get classified at UF?.... This is one just really hard to classify!

right that's kings where I am at with it. I just don't know what to call it. isn't contemp mostly realistic, though?
Definitely loving this book a lot. I honestly didn't think I would love it this much already. And I really like that it is still technically a contemporary, but has other elements involved. And like most of you said, it was definitely a struggle to put down!

Is anybody else a little giddy that this book DOESN'T fit into some pre-described mold / definition? It's so unique, all of us can't even call what it is! I like books that break boundaries and transcend what we might call normal fantasy, pun intended. ; )
I love that it doesn't fit a mold too. A lot of the time I feel like I'm reading something I've already read before, but Pivot Point was something so new it was addicting and hard to put down. I wish I had seen the NORM / PARA thing at the top of the chapters though haha.

I have the same problem sometimes. Sometimes books are so similar I can predict what is going to happen and I don't get that with this one.
Yes, you do! because it's so hard to keep spoiler free and I need everyone to catch up so I can read the next section!
I'm all caught up now! I really like the idea and story but I'm having some issues with the writing...it feels stiff. I think it's supposed to be that way but it's taking a bit to get use to
Stopped at Chapter 3 last night since I didn't want to accidentally stay up til 4am reading for the 3rd night in a row.So far very readable. Love Laila.
Michelle (In Libris Veritas) wrote: "That's probably it. I'm in one of my picky moods today, lol."I can understand that I get like that too. I think as we get further in it will smooth out, or at least that is the feeling I have about it.
I'm really liking the dual timelines too! And am surprised that I like her in the normal world so much!!!
Holy cow! The book is such a fast read. I find myself staring at chapter 9 wishing I could read on. My procrastinating hit me hard this week, but thankfully I could read the beginning in a short time! Totally a good book to start "group" readings for me. :)
I agree about it being a good start for group reading! But now I want to keep reading and since everyone should be all caught up now, I can!
Tomorrow we can start spoilery talking about it lol. How do you guys like the characters so far? If you had to chose which reality to live in based on what you've read so far which would you pick?
I love all of them so far. Out of (view spoiler) Laila is just awesome. :) From the two realities, I'd probably go with Norm. (view spoiler)
I can't choose yet either, but the fact that there is actually a character named Duke (and not a dog) is so awesome. That's my husband and son's names!

Yum! If I think of this Duke looking like Channing Tatum I'm never picking the other guy ;)

I forgot all about him!
So are we witnessing the 2 paths she is Searching when her parents tell her to decide? I was enjoying it regardless of not really getting why she was in both places. I was even contemplating Cloning & or some crazy Para technology that allowed it to happen or even that she'd done both & the timelines weren't in synch.
@Amy - yep :) If you notice in the chapters "titles" - the word contains either Para or Norm. Para is with her mom, Norm is with her dad.
Oh the things I could do if I had this ability, though... Man, I think I would definitely have made some different choices.
