It is such an interesting world they’ve built. From their take on the magic and tech, to the vampires, and even the shapeshifters. It’s very unique.

Ora (oeamis) This is the third time reading. I love how Kate greeted Curran. here kitty..lol Love how she told him she would bring cream and catnip next time.

Ora (oeamis) I love how much Kate has grown. I forgot that she wasn't always as self assured as she is later in the series. I like that she does learn from her mistakes even though she does beat herself up a little too much. Yes people died because she wasn't able to solve the mystery fast enough however she did not cause the deaths. I guess that's one of the things I love about Kate. Once she takes on a case, she puts her entire self into solving it and rips her heart out when others get hurt.

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments I have just started this book.I have meant to read it for a while. I must say that the vampires are a bit unique. I don't think I have ever read a book in which the vampires (view spoiler). While I am on the subject of vampires... Hasn't Ghastek ever heard of phones? Calling by (view spoiler) is definitely an interesting choice.

Kate is an interesting MC. I really love her sass and snark. I find myself giggling at some of the things she says. I already have a few quotes from the book that I love. My absolute favorite (I had to message to my brother-in-law in Texas) was actually a thought she had "if it wasn't for Oklahoman cowboys and Mexican whores having a bit of fun, there would've been no Texans" . I also love her take on investigating: "annoy the people involved until the guilty party tries to make you go away" . I have a feeling that I will really like this MC.

Anna's voicemail about her vision is interesting. I would love to know what Kate's thoughts are on how she is interpreted in the vision. All the author shows is her thinking the word "Lovely" and I can't help but think that it is anything BUT lovely. LOL!

I can't wait to dig more into this book and see what happens.

You are in for a treat as the books just keep getting better. The first one drags a bit with all the world building (but at least it is an interesting world).

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments Chapter 3 - End
(view spoiler)

As far as intro books go, this was not bad. It gave an interesting glimpse into the world they live in. I am curious enough to read on. I know some people get bored with intro books but I like to get some kind of background info and this one was a decent start the series. Plus I love how snarky and sassy Kate is. I can't wait to see what is in store for book 2.

I really loved that part as well. My favorite thing about the book is how snarky and sassy Kate is!

I do love the world that was created. It's so unique. I haven't read another series with this type of world with vampires and shifters. The authors are wonderful storytellers and love reading and listening to their books.

Jane | 705 comments I also love this book for it world building, it is so unique. Vampires that are nothing like vampires in other books but are piloted is brilliant.

That is why I like her. She is a bad-ass heroine with a heart of gold.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments This is my 2nd time reading this one. The first time, I think I rushed through it & now I'm trying to savor it a little more. I already see that there're things I missed!

I love the world building! Ms. Andrews makes it all seem so matter of fact & believable. Love Karmelion! I am fascinated by the way they relate to the shifters & vampires. It's like they all co-exist even if they don't like it very much.

Love the kitty!

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Kate is quite remarkable for her pithy quips & general unflappability. You'd think she'd be utterly devasted by the loss of the closest thing to a family she had. Instead she digs right in & gets to work! The magic work is stellar as well. I just bought into the whole concept.

Unicorn Lane was, quite frankly, terrifying! The whole encounter could've gone horribly wrong. The vampire lair was sketchy as well.

Kate is undeniably a badass. I couldn't help feeling sometimes the powers that be were setting her up for a fall...
