Night shrugged and kept going.

Ebony couldn't stand it. "Where do you get off controlling MY horse???" She yelled.

"I don't know.."

"You're frustrating." Ebony said. She picked up an apple out of her saddle bag and threw it at night's head.

Night ducked, catching the apple.

Ebony was a little impressed, but she refused to say so. She just smiled a little and kept riding. "I would have preferred for that to hit you." she said half joking, half serious.

Night looked around where they were, nothing.

The sun was beginning to set behind the landscape. "Do you want to stop and set up camp or keep riding? It's your call." Ebony said.

" I really don't care. Do you want to?" He asked, watching the stars come out.

[E.j.]

Ebony looked around. There was a small stream slightly to her right. "Yea. Let's stop. We can water the horses there." she nodded toward the stream. "Unless, you're scared of the dark?" she said teasingly.

Night smiled. "Let's just go to the stream."

"You didn't answer my question." Ebony said smiling. She spurred Everburn and turned him toward the stream.

Night followed the sound of water and went ahead of her.

Ebony jumped off of Everburn when they reached the stream. She let Everburn drink while she unpacked her blanket from the saddle bag. She also grabbed her flint to make a fire.

Night was already off Hellfire and already laid his blanket.

Ebony gathered some wood, and had a fire going in about five minutes. She spread out her blanket and set down on it. The heat from the fire was enough to keep her warm from the cold wind of the night.

Night sat on his blanket and watched the horses.

[E.j.]

"So, if you're dad's the sheriff, who's you mom? A beauty pageant queen?" Ebony smiled kiddingly.

Night sighed. "Mom was just a maid that the sheriff took a fancy for." He kept watching the animals.

[E.j.]

Ebony was a little sorry that she'd joked about it. "I'm sorry. Did he ever marry her?" she asked.

Night slowly shook his head. "Nope." He said bluntly.

[E.j.]

Ebony looked at her blanket. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, my mom WAS a beauty pageant queen." she said with distaste.

Night smiled, it was almost ironic.

"That's why I ran away from home. Mom was trying to make me a pageant girl. That wasn't going to happen." she said blatantly.

"And why not?" Night asked.

[E.j.]

"Well, A. I'm me. I hate beauty queens, and B. I'm not cut out for that stuff. I mean, I'm a girl. That's about the only qualification I meet to be in a pageant." she said.

"I wouldn't say the only qualification." Night smiled at her.

Ebony's eyes widened a little at his words. "Thanks." she said. "You're no too bad looking yourself." she said jokingly and smiled back at him.
((It's absolutely fine! I was on the verge of passing out too...))

"Some of them are also snobbish." Night teased.

"Oh yeah, because I think I'm just all that." she bantered. "Not many of them could kick someone's butt and look half as good doing it though." she laughed.

"I am awesome, aren't I?" Night smiled.

"Wow. You really would fit in with the pageant girls." Ebony laughed at him. "The stars are out." she said a little side tracked.

Night smiled. "I am beautiful." Then looked up, the stars gleaming.

"You're also a tad hallucinogenic." she said smiling.

"Don't know what that means so I'm going to go ahead and say yes." He smiled.

"It means that you see things that aren't really there, and you believe in them. So, yes would be the correct answer." she laughed.

" you're still here." He smiled, hinting she might not be real.

[E.j.]

"This may be a shock, but I'm actually real." She reached over and pinched him. "See? In the flesh." she said.

"You're a girl; you can fight; and you're beautiful. Sure you're real?" Night smiled, he was talking to a hallucination.

"Aw shucks, you're making me blush." she joked. "I think I'm real. I've never really tested my authenticity." she said and giggled a little at the thought.

Night smiled and kissed her.

Ebony smiled under Night's lips and kissed him back with a little more force. She pulled away. "Hm, I guess I am real." she said smiling.

Night smiled. "I guess so am I."

Ebony threw her hands up in the air. "I guess that settles it! We're both real!" she said.

Night smiled and fist pumped the air. "Yeah!"

Ebony laughed at that and settled back down on her blanket with her hands behind her head. She wasn't really tired, but the crackle of the fire was relaxing.

Night smiled and did the same, hearing the horses return.

Ebony laid there looking at the stars. Suddenly, she sat up and slid over to where Night was laying on his blanket. She didn't say anything. She just put her head on his shoulder and laid down next to him. She felt a little odd doing it because she wasn't really the cuddling type, but for some reason, she wanted to. "If this is weird, just tell me, and I'll move." she said seriously.

"Okay." Night smiled, watching the stars as the horses sat by the fire. He pulled a blanket over Ebony, the air was starting to chill.
