Pulling this one out off the shelf and dusting it off :D

Nikki (withererose) Just started this today and am about 80 pages into it so far. I'm enjoying it quite a bit, more than I thought. Hopefully it keeps going as good throughtout the whole book :D

Fingers crossed! Starting it today. :)

I listened to this and loved it. The narrator did a great job bringing the brothers to life. It was so much fun to hear Old Red channeling Sherlock Holmes' methods :)

Randa | 175 comments Finished.

Just finished the book and found it to be rather entertaining. May look into the next in the series. I will say there were points in the book that I had to set it down because I was beginning to lose interest but after a short break from it I was able to once again enjoy the story.

Looking forward to seeing other's comments on this book.

I loved the relationship between the brothers. I believe I'm envious :) Old Red is obviously smart, but had to work to help send Big Red to school. Now the two combine their talents to solve the murders.

Ann (disciple45) This was an enjoyable book. The mystery was good and so were the characters. However, I still don't care all that much for westerns!

Pamela Rose (httpbitly1ax8ln0) | 24 comments Yes, the relationship between the brothers was enjoyable. Old Red's intelligence and curiosity were fun to explore as created by the author.

Mark Baker (carstairs38) | 1282 comments I read this book when it first came out, and I kept up with it as it went along. I will warn that I found one or two of them to be a little dark, but I always enjoyed them for the brothers and how the author developed them over the course of the series.

Randa | 175 comments Glad to hear about later books as I just picked up the second book from the library. Need to plow through several books before i can start it though. Although not liking the books I'm reading so it may get bumped up to real soon.

message 13: by Randa (new)

Randa | 175 comments Just finished the second book in the series. I never thought I would like this series as I'm not in to all that western stuff, but these books are just enjoyable. I like the relationship between the brothers. I like that the relationship appears superficial but goes very deep, words and mush not necessary.

Just started this one. I'm enjoying the interplay between the brothers.

Barb Sopha | 1 comments I really enjoyed this book!! It was so nice to read a cozy mystery with 2 men as the main characters for a change. I agree with a previous post -- I didn't really care for Sherlock Holmes being turned into a real person but that was only thing I didn't like. Looking forward to reading more books in this series.

I agree it was nice that the two main characters were male. The other thing I liked about this book (and the second one) was that they weren't smarter than the local police. I really enjoy reading cozies but after a binge read of cozies I wonder how any crimes get solved without the help of interfering old ladies, bakers, oh so busy stay at home moms, inn keepers.....

message 17: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) I wasn't sure I was going to like this as I've never really been into westerns, but I ended up enjoying it. It was a quick read and I liked the banter between the two brothers. The ending was a surprise too; I actually didn't know who did it until the end.

I'm not sure if I will continue with the series or not. I may put it on my list for when I'm looking for a quick read or when I'm on the wait list for other books.

The part about Sherlock Holmes being real kind of took me aback too.

Finished Holmes on the Range and enjoyed it. It was a good mystery with lots of twists and a resolution I did not figure out. Thanks for picking this author, it got the book off my TBR.

One of the bonuses for me was realizing how dangerous and precarious life was for cowboys. I don't read Westerns normally and never thought about it. Nowhere close to the romanticized TV version.

From others comments, I expected Sherlock Holmes to actually appear in the story - he doesn't. Fictional characters referring to another fictional character as 'real' was not an issue for me.

message 20: by Iamabibliophile (new)

Iamabibliophile | 201 comments I certainly agree. It didn't bother me at all either. I enjoyed it. Glad I picked it.

Randa | 175 comments Don't know who picked this book choice by I've finished the series and hope another book is published soon. Surprised I liked it, but probably because it is so different. Nice to see a main character who isn't a women for a change.

message 22: by Mark (new)

Mark Baker (carstairs38) | 1282 comments I know the author would like to come back and write more about the characters, but I don't think he has a publisher at the moment. I do know he has a middle grade science mystery book coming out in November.

Thank you for the info, I keep checking his website to see when a new one will come out. Guess I have to hope he gets a new publisher soon.

Unfortunately I seem to be the kiss of death on products that I like. Maybe this could be a new career for me people can pay me to really like competitors and then the competitors will cease to exist.
