Ahh, Nancy, nice scoring there but addition is not allowed. You may read as many as you like, but it's only the highest scoring that counts.
I read The Camel Bookmobile
8 pts - I saw it at the library and I just had to read it, so I borrowed it. It was not on my TBR or wishlist.
4 pts - The title was what drew me in.
4 pts - Has the title in white

Sorry Nancy. The monthly challenges are always for one book. The rules clearly state that you may read as many books as you want, but only the highest scoring book will be counted.
It looks like Fin & Lady is your highest scoring book with 16 points.

I think you missed some points from the "how impulsive are you" section of the scoring. What made you pick up the book to read it?

How impulsive are you?
2 pts - I've had this on my shelf and I've been dying to read it, but I haven't been able to because of all the challenges I've committed to.
Genre:
5 pts - Fantasy
Title: (sub-titles do not count)
5 pts - Is one word long
Cover: (based on the issue you read)
5 pts - Has a person's back to you
4 pts - Has the title in white
2 pts - Has a building on it.
Pages:
5 pts - 500 - 1000 pages (936)
Total = 28 pts

The Lightning Thief
Impulsivity: 0 (none of them apply, but it still was an impulsive choice)
Genre: 7 (5 for fantasy, 2 for young adult)
Title: 0
Cover: 7 (5 for someone's back, 2 for building)
Pages: 3 (375 pages)
Total score: 17

That sounds good. I liked it a lot as well and it´s true, sometimes you just need the right incentive to tackle a book like this. I really loved the just because challenge for this as it brought back the joy of reading without having to stick to a list etc. (not that you NEED to do that anyway, but you know...).

Impulsivity: 8 points (got it as a Kindle freebie)
Genre: 3 points (horror)
Pages: 5 points (503 pages)

Impulsivity: 8 points (saw it available in the library, remembered it's a classic I haven't read, borrowed it, only then put it on my TBR and it stayed there for a week before I started reading it; all of this happened in August :) )
Genre: 4 points (science fiction)
Title: 4 points (two words - does the number actually count as one word? I am not sure how to score it...) + 3 points (has numerals in title)
Total: 19 points (maybe 15 if the 4 points for the title don't count)

Impulsive: 6pts (drawn in by cover at the library. It had been on TBR for a brief time although wasn't sure whether to read it or not - cover clinched it for me)
Genre: 3pts (Horror)
Title: 5pts (one word)
Pages: 2pts (283 pages)
TOTAL: 16pts

Sorry - I wasn't aware of this since I am new to this group. I'll go back now and edit my total.

Impulsive - 2. I've wanted to read it since I finished Wool, the first in the series.
Genre - 4 sci-fi (dystopian)
Title - 5 Shift is the title of the book but on Goodreads theyve had to add "omnibus edition" because it was originally released in three parts. Mine just says Shift on the front.
Pages - 5 (565 pages)

Was it good? I have Wool on my kindle and I'm hoping to read it this month. I've heard lots of good things about it.

I had heard good things about Wool, and then I discovered the author is a sexist a**hole. So he has firmly planted himself on my "will pick up at a second hand store if I find it, but no way in hell that guy is getting my money" list. He's in good company with Orson Scott Card

Shadow and Bone
Impulse Buy that I read the next day - does it get any more impulsive than that! - 10 pts
Genre: Young Adult + Fantasy - 7 pts
Title: 0 pts
Cover: Building - 2 pts
Pages: 358 - 3 pts
Total: 22 points.
Not bad for a just because. No glue stick this time!

I would say that 451 would count as a word, so 19 points it is. This was your first challenge, wasn't it? Woohoo!

There weren't many perks with the scoring on that one Rusalka! Need a glue stick to help stick things to the wallpaper? :)

No points for impulsiveness? I thought I had covered all scenarios, but you are the third with zero points in that category.

I was trying to think of a glue related joke. Good work :P

I would agree with you on this one. Let's call "Omnibus Edition" a subtitle in this case.

It's a symbol that represents a word. If you read the title out loud, you read Fin and Lady. But, we will leave your score as is. Just note for future challenges.

Looks like the glue stick might find it's way over to another mod. ROFL!

I scored all my books listed on page 2, but will put it here for ease of finding it.

Thanks, Naomi. It's a good thing you did because I don't scroll back up. I know I've tracked everything to msg 181, and only look at new messages. Too much like work. :)

Oh, can you score backs according to number of backs? If so, does that apply to buildings too? My cover has many buildings ;)

Read the scoring rules as "back(s), building(s)". So it doesn't matter how many backs or how many buildings, you just get points as if it was 1 back or 1 building.

I will be the fourth. You did not cover: "Ran to the bookstore as soon as they called to tell me the it had arrived." I read books I was waiting for the paperback edition. My copies were on my bookstore waiting list.

Drat. I like Wool, more than I expected. I think it was a "good book at the good time" thing. What did you think Esta? I thought it had a touch of older SF style.

Thanks, Janice. I missed the 2nd half of that "reason".

I would say that 451 would count as a word, so 19 points it is. This was your first challenge, wasn't it? Woohoo!"
Yeah, it was :). I joined at a fairly easy one, but I am also excited about the next one!

I had heard good things about Wool, and then I discovered the author is a sexist a**hole. So he has firmly planted himself on my "will pick up at a second hand store if I find ..."
Yeah, I read all about that too, it happened after I had finished Wool. However, one of the main things I loved about Wool was how Howey wrote the female characters. I actually think that Juliette, the female protagonist of Wool, is one of the best female characters I have ever read. I know the thing he wrote was completely over the top and very ill-advised, and there is no getting away from that, but the book is very very good and I was willing to just shake my head and enjoy his writing instead.
P.S I hated Ender's Game when I read it, I thought Ender was a horrible character, there was just horribleness throughout that book, IMO. Needless to say, I don't like Orson Scott Card either, there is horribleness throughout him too.

Yes, that was the correct thing to do, Suzie.

You might have to duke it out with Rusalka on that one. :)
