you know, when it reached the moment that described Will, with that grimly manor and steel gray beard, I really wanted to cry :((
poor Alyss... :((
poor Alyss... :((

Sad, a book without Will's humour.
yeah, include that Halt wasn't completely humorless. But in this book Will has lost Alyss, he would be worse than what Halt used to be :(
I hoped so. but John ruined all of my dreams. he said in book 4 of brotherband gilan is one of characters, but we never have Will or Halt.:((

Errr, I know I'm meant to be sad and all that but this honestly just annoys and confuses me for several reasons:
1. The peasant child appears to have absolutely no survival instinct, she just sat there unless she was asleep with the smell of smoke wafting up and not to mention people screaming, in which case would wake anyone up. And oh how hard the idea of escaping via the window is to fathom . . .
2. Alyss could have yelled at the kid unless it was a toddler/ baby to jump out the damn window.
3. If it happened to be an infant, she should have jumped out hugging it (saving both their lives) so it would not potentially get Shaken Baby Syndrome resulting in serious brain damage, and with a really big fall, probably death. I mean seriously, who in their right mind would throw a baby or young child out the window?
4. If the kid was unconscious from the smoke, how did Alyss even know she was in there unless the parents told her or the kid was screaming (in which case she should have yelled at the kid to get out)?
5. If the kid had parents, why did they not care enough about their own kid to go in and save her themselves?
And yes, I think that is just about it. *sighs* I'm confused, I really am . . .

That is dumb how the peasant child just stood there. The peasant should have jumped out the window.

What's up next for protagonist Will, the orphan recruited to protect the Kingdom of Araluen? Book 12 sees the story go full circle, set 16 years after the previous book with Will, now a grown man, reluctantly training an apprentice of his own. "I've had this story in mind since I wrote the fourth book, many years ago. There is a cyclical feel about it," Flanagan says.
