It's hard to unless you know German. I have a sense of where an umlaut would be in a word and what letters are likely to follow it. Something like a surname "Rsching" looks like the tail end of a German name to me, also I do a lot of librarian work so I see these umlauts stripped out and blank spaces where they should be.

I see it sometimes on book cover when available.

I'm going to lurk a while to cross off my "done" messages. But not posting any new authors tonight.I was finding by starting a comment, clicking add book/author then author tab, and searching (where ^ is actually a space) common-name^A^ then B, C...Z in place of the A.
So my next post would have been for adding authors found searching Adam^N^ thru Adam^Z^
Then names like Larry, David, Jim, Robert, Ann, Anne, Beth, Elizabeth, Elisabeth, Mark, John, etc.

Supers can't merge into claimed profiles. Only staff members can.

Looks like everything done up to here ( thru 142) that regular librarians could do.Thanks everyone, just been a list of non-standard author things preying on my mind.

should be:
Timo Kölling
So if the last name looks kind of funky - Lling doesn't look like a normal Asian spelling of Ling, for example - be suspicious.
