By the way it's not just umlauts we should be aware of, also the Spanish accents. Pretty much any accent can/will strip out the vowel.

I wouldn't worry too much at this point about a surname that is already intact but is missing an accent. Those can always be found at some later time and combined. (There are lots and lots of these extant....)
It's more worrisome if the missing vowel totally corrupts the surname, and a surname that originally began with G now begins with R, or something like that.

Oh! All right! I'll try and be on the look out :D Thank you :D :D
For all the time you're putting in to get these types of things correct, you should have just stayed a librarian. Less time to just do it than to report it and double check it...
LOL maybe. I just had all the missing period lists still to do and the three times I posted saying they needed doing and explaining how I was finding ... nothing got done. Breaking out this way, actually getting worked on. OCD about finishing what I started and still have lists I can cut/paste from. And these no-period ones irritate me when I run across editions of one of my books spread out over multiple authors ("irritated" by typos and non-standard stuff part of why pre-amazon I became a librarian in the first place and this week I'm stuck with some massive sit-and-watch-servers reindex and backup snoozefests where I have the time to list).
After this week, I'll let someone else do what I did not get to.
I'm more used to combining editions of novels, but this is also fun, thank you for letting us do it too, Debbie :)

Except for Ana E. Ross (she's a Goodreads Author, so a Super will be able to do that more than me?

Actually only staff can edit claimed author profiles. So, adding Ana E Ross to that thread at http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
