Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 113 comments Those of you who read ebooks: what format can/do you read, and in particular, do you read .epub, .mobi/.prc, or both?

I'm asking because Smashwords has just made preordering possible for its premium distribution (B&N, Kobobooks, iBookstore, etc.). I have a hunch that Amazon will respond by making preorders available to indie authors for the first time -- IF they're part of Kindle Select. If this happens, authors who want to take advantage of preordering will have to choose for which platform to publish.

Katie (skateanddonate) | 8 comments I prefer to read .mobi. However, I also have the nook app on my Kindle Fire so can read .epub, I just miss all the capabilities of mobi. I can also read pdf but again the ability to highlight and make notes makes .mobi my preferred format. To the point, I usually sort my library's new additions to exclude everything but mobi, because it is such a pain to read the other ones

I read on my Kindle. I love it, and I've got tons of books for it. I will likely never switch e-readers, because I just love the Kindle.

Zack I usually receive e-books published in all formats and use calibre to convert them to whatever format I need based on the e-reader I'm using that day.

Mad Giles (Giles A. Madding) (gilesamadding) | 2 comments My preference is for the kindle format, right now I use Kindle of PC ... I am not currently very mobile so reading just from my netbook works for me. Though I have epub and pdf reader programs on mine as well. For all those "must reads" that are not available for kindle.

Edwin Downward (edwindownward) | 7 comments I read .epub on the generic ebook reader on my tablet. Half of all my ebooks came via Smashwords, the rest from either the author or the publisher.

Maggie James (maggiejamesfiction) | 10 comments I use a Nook, so read in ePub. I buy almost all .mobi formats though - I simply convert them into ePub for the Nook.
