I loved this book! I love the originality of it and I can't stop reading because I just want to know what will happen next.
I just finished the book today. I enjoyed it very much. It's like reading a very long succession of short stories that are linked by an underlying theme. David Levithan seems to understand very well that there is no such thing as a typical 16 year-old.
I felt it was a perfect pick for a YA class as a librarian. This story will make students & teens think about their preconceived ideas they have about other people. It offers the true meaning of walking in another person's shoes. I love the fact that it covers just about every issue you can think of that teens will & do encounter & wonder about: race, sex, gay, love, etc. I would encourage it to be a 'one book, one school' reading, as well as required reading for education and library & information sciences majors. It would also be excellent as a choice for the subject of writing. Have students write an entry or entries as the main character or extend the writing of one of the characters.
After the first two chapters, I was completely hooked. I didn't realize how thought provoking this book would be. I love that it feels like a collection of short stories. It's different! Really excited to finish in the next day or so.
