Hello :)
I am self-publishing fiction for the first time and decided to give a go on Amazon Kindle Publisher.

The book status is "publishing", which means in a few hours it will be officially for sale.

Somehow I did a search for my tittle and found it already for sale, but with the wrong price. Almost TWICE as much as the one I set.

I wanted to sell the e-book for 4 $ and Amazon put the price to 7.50 $ on the web store, which is quite unfair given it is a short story...

The weird thing is when I login to my "dashboard", the price I listed is correct!

Had anyone had this kind of problem before???!!!

Michelle (michelleabbott) | 86 comments It's for sale now, at $4 so I don't know why you're seeing a different price!

Hi Michelle :) Thank you for letting me know! I just checked it here and the same thing happens, I keep seeing the 7.50 price :S

Could that be because I am seeing it from Norway???

Michelle (michelleabbott) | 86 comments Very strange! I think because you are looking at it from Norway, that maybe they add tax to the price. I'm from the UK & the price I see for my book on the US is a few cents higher than it is for US residents.

Here are the current prices for your book when viewed from the UK:
US: $4.12
UK: £2.68
Europe 3.10 euros

Hope this helps

Michelle, I think that could be it. My husband searched for my book from his kindle, and saw the US price, while when I search for it from my pc I see the "Norwegian price", in USD, which is almost twice as the price paid in US. :)

I think that includes indeed some taxes we pay when purchase things here!

Thank you so much for the enlightenment! :D

Mellie (mellie42) | 644 comments You might want to rethink your pricing strategy, given this is a short story/novella. $4 is a price point for full length novels. Most shorts/novellas are $0.99 or free.
Some readers may feel ripped off, paying $4 for a short, and in such cases, they tend to leave quite scathing reviews.

Claire Wingfield | 16 comments You can see a different price if you are not logging in from that territory. I emailed kdp support about this and got a very strange explanation of it, but also confirmation that my book was for sale at the price I wanted. AW's point worth considering also.

Claire Wingfield | 16 comments Just dug out the response I received from kdp support on this:

I can confirm your Kindle book "52 Dates for Writers" is indeed available for sale on the Amazon.com website for a list price of $x only.

I understand that you may be trying to view Amazon.com from the UK. Please note, UK customers can buy the Kindle books from the UK store only.

However, if you're browsing in the US Kindle store from a location outside of the United States, you may see a price higher than what you listed on the KDP website.

Please review our FAQ's here (under 1-21 and 1-26):

https://kdp.amazon.com/self-publishin...

There are a number of reasons why prices for Kindle titles may vary from region to region, including taxes and other operating costs. Although you see the higher price for your book, as soon as a UK customer signs in to the Amazon.com, it will not show them the price and prompt them to visit the UK store instead to buy the Kindle book. For US customers, however, it will be available for $x only.

I hope this helps. Thanks for using Amazon KDP.

@ A.W: Thank you for your input and advice! I will think about it consider a lower price for the short story. :)

I hardly ever buy any fiction e-books, so I wasn't sure how much my work could cost, but given that feedback, I see things now from a different perspective! Thank you! :)

@Claire: Thank you so much for the great feedback as well. It seems like in Norway we pay very high taxes when purchasing content from Amazon, it adds to basically double the price set for the US store, which is a pitty.

I wasn't aware of it at first, but now with all the inputs on this thread I have learned that thanks to you guys!

And yeah, given that, I will put a new price for my work :)
