Matthew found a broken chariot, not his of course. And started fixing it.
She reached over and shook his hand, getting grease on it, but not apologizing for it. "If you want, I can help you fix your chariot."

"Nothing, really, as long as you've got sunscreen." She burned like crazy. "And deoderant, of course. And a sledgehammer. If you want, we could get a coat of paint on it as well and have it dry overnight."

"No, we're going to touch up the chariot. And we both do. If we really don't want to stink up this entire area. We're going to be working and sweating. Let's roll this into some shade and get to work."
"Matthew, why does your dog like jumping on me and licking my face?" she asked, from the floor, with the dog on top of her.

She sighed. "See if you can't work things out. A relationship is supposed to be work, not play."
"See, if you were to like me like you liked Rikki, eventually you'd get tired about all the annoying little things I'd do and everything. And you'd grow bored of me. Then, out of the blue, comes another girl, who is different. You'll decide that a relationship with me is boring and a relationship with someone else must be far better. So you'll go for the new girl, grow old of her, find someone else, and the cycle will go on forever."
She nodded. "You don't want to be caught in that cycle. You might just be crushing hearts, over and over."
