Kindle Owners' Lending Library: Worthwhile?

I'm curious to know if anyone here uses the Kindle Owners' Lending Library. How is the SF/fantasy book selection? Are you generally able to find a worthwhile book every month? I've only been find gigantic lists of books sorted by "popularity", most of which look, well, really not worth reading.

I have seen many good books as part of the library, enough to make me wish i could use a kindle. Searching for books directly or adding the kindle ebook, science fiction fantasy, and prime eligible refinements to a search or browsing session should help you find more books that are to your taste.

I have a Kindle Fire but haven't tried the lending thing yet. I'm still getting used to e-books, preferring paper.

It certainly worthwhile to browse them if you already have a Kindle, but honestly from what I've seen the selection is not great.

They have some Vonnegut and a lot of Arthur C. Clarke, which is nice. But I don't think I've seen much else that interested me.

You'd be much better off looking for e-books on your local library's site.

I normally take the other way. I'm reading a lot of book blogs and reviews and add all those potential reads to my wishlist.
And often, if the author is an indie author, chances are good that the book is in the lending library.

Of course, you can't expect that the next Abercrombie/Erikson/Hamilton/Reynolds etc. is in the lending library, but if you take a bit of time, you're able to find a lot of books that are worthwhile.

I have the lending library for kindle because I have prime. So it is a bonus.
I do like it quite a bit. The fantasy books are interesting never seen anything for sci-fi that I was interested in. But like some of the others have said you have to be willing to read indie authors otherwise I would not recommend it.

Tried it after getting my Kindle Fire about a year and a half ago. It was mostly unknown authors and I didn't really see anything worthwhile about it, especially since so many libraries now let you check out books you are familiar with.

I browsed it when I had my free prime trial and there wasn't much on there.

I have found a book or two in there, but apart from the Harry potter books, I hAve not been impressed.

If we ever decide to get a Prime membership, I'd give the KOLL a browse. But so far we've not needed Prime for shipping, and it certainly isn't worth the $$ just for the KOLL.

My local library has a fabulous ebook selection. Between that, freebies & sale titles (thank you, ereaderiq price drop by author tracker!!!), and the books we decided to just outright buy regardless of price, I have more than plenty to read.
