The Hit

Relationship between Will Robie and Jessica Reel

Did the end of David Baldacci The Hit, hint at a relationship brewing between Will and Jessica? Were they discussing the job or starting a relationship?

I agree with Brian that Baldacci is hinting at a romantic/working relationship with Jessica.
Or it may be that since they are both 'loners' due to their skills/occupation, and going by some of the things Will says, that he's telling her she is no longer alone, that he will be there for her as a loyal friend.

Perhaps friends/coworkers because you can't forget about SuperAgent Vance!!! I think something could very easily develop there with Will as well. Julie would certainly like to see that.
I was disappointed that Baldacci ended the book this way. There wasn't much of a relationship between them during the book. There was more of something between Robie and Vance. I was looking forward to that developing over the course of the next book or two, especially with their relationship with Julie.
I was hoping that Robie was just showing Reel that they could have a life outside of work. I get that Reel understands him, what he has been through and what he has done better than Vance. I get that there is still a potential conflict of interest between Robie and Vance but that is part of the attraction in their relationship for me.

I don't think Reel will ever love somebody. She had turned off her emotions a long ago, but I do agree with you about the ending of the book. I expect

I ship Will and Jessica! I wish for something to finally happen in The Guilty.
Well, I guess from reading the description of the next book in the series "The Target", Jessica and Will will be working together as a team on another far more dangerous mission. So, who knows? There may be something new regarding their relationship...
I have to admit, I was disappointed when Jessic Reel appeared in "The Guilty". I think Will Robie's character is really entertaining; Reel's, by contract, is bitchy, snarky, and arrogant. I don't find her delightful at all. In fact, her presence is making it hard for me to finish reading "The Guilty". One of the things I really enjoyed about the Memory Man series was that the protagonist, Amos Decker, doesn't have a romantic interest. I appreciate having just a thriller to read without a side of romance. So annoying. I wish Reel would disappear.
