Oh, darn it. We probably won't get it till around February on the free to air networks then. If its pay tv here (cable) we tend to get it immediately.
This is the first I had heard about a new Dracula series on NBC, and the fact that it is Meyers got me even more excited. But NBC?? How good can a vampire story be on prime time?? I just checked out the trailer, and wow, doesn't look like NBC is going to be slacking....definitely not for the kiddies!!
This is the first I have heard of it as well and oh my goodness. That will be a must watch! Loved the trailer!!
Ok, forget my previous question. I went over to IMDB and checked. Here's hoping he stays sober for this. Half the time in the Tudor's he looked like he had a hang-over. Of course--wit it being ol' Henry, it would have been in character for him. lol. (Oh, and anyone that likes him--did you see him in August Rush? He's not the "star" of the movie, but he's got a good role in it.)
Ann, it took me a moment to figure out JRM when I first saw this thread. I did see August Rush and thought it was a pretty good movie. Definitely different from his latest work. Guess he is going to be in the movie Immortal Instruments City of Bones also. Pretty sure he is playing a bad guy in that one too.

Has anyone been watching Dracula? I liked the second episode last night. Should be an interesting season.
LOL. now I know who JRM is. I suspect Tudors refers to the royal dynasty. Is this mini series on HBO?
MadameZelda wrote: "LOL. now I know who JRM is. I suspect Tudors refers to the royal dynasty. Is this mini series on HBO?" Yes it is!I have only watched the first episode so far (have the second recorded) but I an really liking it. Darker than I thought it would be for sure.
I watched this yesterday, and didn't like it at all. I found it visually stunning, but the dialogue felt stilted and everyone seems constantly bored.
Marta wrote: "Has anyone been watching Dracula? I liked the second episode last night. Should be an interesting season."I watched the opening episode. I feel like all they did was borrow the famous name for a completely different story. That aside, I tried to enjoy it without any expectations. Frankly, the leading man completely fails to move me. All the other roles seem fairly well cast, but Dracula? Meh.
I guess I have read too much PNR, but Dracula should have a certain sex appeal, charisma that draws you in. While I still think JRM is a little terrifying in this role, I don't get that oooohhh, he can nibble on my neck reaction. I do like how they didn't cast Renfield as some sniveling weasel, as he is often portrayed.
I have NBC, but I've never seen it even advertised with a 'scenes for the next episode' thing. Is it on during the a.m.?
No it comes on late on Friday nights. I saw a preview for the next episode at the end of the last episode. As for someone saying the actors looked like they were bored, that is sort of the time period they are portraying. They were all very much about the manners and for the most part you were expected to be very proper if you were apart of society.
I agree that the sex appeal isn't there for Dracula but the monster factor definitely is.

It's a Friday night show airing at 10:00 pm est

Actually, I meant that the actors seemed like they were just going through the motions. It felt like they weren't trying that hard to sell that wooden dialogue. Being a fan of PBS, I do know a good period piece when I see it. I'm not saying your opinion is wrong for liking it, but don't try to negate my opinion or "explain" what I meant to say. I don't like it, no offense.
Umm, I wasn't trying to explain your opinion, I miss understood you. I would never force my opinion or thoughts on someone, that isn't who I am. I am sorry if you viewed it that way. I thought you were talking about the time period not the acting abilities of the actors. Excuse me for misunderstanding. I didn't mean any offense whatsoever.

Deciphering all the passive aggression has me seeing it everywhere. I apologize for being snippy in response.
I've been watching it. I love the idea of him watching her from afar but still going on with his business (The opera scene). The second episode with the carriage scene, I would have to agree with the wooden dialogue. You could almost see the cues! I was waiting for the thrill of just the 2 of them together, but alas it was stilted. I'll give this show a few more episodes. It's still new and the actors are still getting used to each other.

Thank you for that. ;) i do know where you are coming from though because I agree that the acting could be better. I think it lacks..passion or something. Tracey, I agree, I was hoping more would happen with the carriage scene as well. I am hoping the next episode amps it up a little more. I hate to say this but I really think there has to be more romance to really make this one stand out or maybe that is just the hopeless romantic in me hoping for more of a romance angel.

Thinking back on that carriage scene, I have to agree you gals too. Alone with the prince of darkness...where is the sizzle?? I'm a romantic too Mlpmom. Hope it picks up in the upcoming episodes.

I'm one of those people that was very pessimistic when I found that he was playing Dracula. I'm very strong on the idea that Gary Oldman will always BE Dracula. However, I'm really impressed with JRM as Dracula! :D
You know bringing up Oldman reminds me that Dracula was never suppose to be sexy...so, yeah. I can see why this is more dramatic than romance-y. But still, it would be nice to get more of the romance side of things. Soften him up just a little. Liven up the actors and make it a little more fun too not just drama inspired.
I plan on giving it a full season as well E.C. unless for some reason it goes completely weird and downhill from here, but I am hoping it just gets better and better. I said this in another thread but I will repeat it here, I did not like Supernatural until season two, I almost stopped watching season one but stuck with it because everyone kept raving about it (this was this pass summer by the way that I started watching it)and I am so glad that I did because it truly is one of my favorite tv series now that I watch and I can't believe that I almost stopped watching it.
I am loving it so far. People are way to spoiled these day. Seriously? Witches of East End isn't exciting enough and now in Dracula the romance isn't sizzling and moving fast enough. Slow down people. LOL. I like the slow pace he is taking. He doesn't want to frighten her away. She is engaged to another man, it is a very different time period where being alone with a man is improper. She doesn't remember him. I loved how he supported her dream and told her to never give up. Then watched her wow everyone with her brilliance. Now that is romance. Not this fast paced get your rocks off mentality many have today. Dracula has always been a slow and sensual creature.
No, I agree that him supporting her is romantic Shay and I love that he set her fiance up financially so that she would have a nice life too (even if that meant a life without him in it), I think that was very romantic for sure but I am just hoping that the romance does pick up, either with showing his feelings for her a little more (through flashbacks or by telling his servant guys) or just something. Either way, I would be happy with it. I wasn't expecting them to be together already or anything like that. I like sexual tension in couples, whether in books or the shows I watch. I guess I am just hoping for more of that than anything else.
Does that make sense?
Shay wrote: "I am loving it so far. People are way to spoiled these day. Seriously? Witches of East End isn't exciting enough and now in Dracula the romance isn't sizzling and moving fast enough. Slow down peop..."Shay, you might be right about being spoiled because there are just so many vampire shows to choose from now a days. I gave this 1 1/2 episodes before giving up on it. In all honesty I didn't even like Gary Oldham's Dracula movie. Buffy, True Blood, Angel, Vampire Diaries, and The Originals are more my speed. Now if Anne Rice would let someone do a Lestat TV show, I would so be on board.
After the 8th episode I'm really starting to like it. I didn't hate it before it just wasn't anything great.
I admit, I am liking it way more than I was before. It took awhile to warm up but it is getting pretty good.
I've been putting off watching this one, waiting to see what people thought. So it's worth checking out then?
It's getting more interesting. For me to like anything a lot it usually needs to have decent amount of romance in it. Not much of that going on, but the story is getting better with or without romance.
It definitely lacks in romance and sometimes the acting can be sub par but I love the dress and time period and the plot is getting better and better.
Best actor out of the whole show has to be Renfield. Hes just so eye catching ! Standing beside Dracula your eyes just keep going back to him lol
You know, I agree! I really like his character and how everyone seems to underestimate him simply because of the time period and his color. He is a brilliant and loyal man!
I too agree. I may have said this before but I think it was some brilliant casting for this Renfield. He's not your typical creepy version.
