Ian (ianian) | 2 comments I don't remember a whole lot about the story, but here is what I do remember.

I am almost positive that it was a book written for adults (not young adult fiction or a children's book) though I could be wrong. It was about a family wherein many of the members of the family (but maybe only the women?) had some sort of supernatural powers.

One woman never had to sleep. I believe another could cook very well or could cook something in particular? And then far in the family's past like the founding member of the family or something couldn't feel pain and died by drowning (possibly drowning herself or the people in her town drowned her?) I read this book about four or five years ago but I doubt it was new when I found it.

The only book I could find even sort of resembling this plot was "What the Family Needed" but it definitely wasn't that book because that one was first published in 2011.

Sounds a little like The Probable Future. I don't think the supernatural powers match up exactly to what you described, but it's about a family wherein all the women have different "gifts."

SparksofEmber | 957 comments Probably not it but another poster recently asked about a book featuring a family with superpowers and the answer was Dead of Light. Their magical powers come from the night and they run the city mobster-style.
