"Thank you sir. That's much appreciated." Came the formally honest response. Bryce finished his drink and then carefully stacked up his dishes so it would be easier for the waiter to carry. He reached up and rubbed his eyes tiredly, blinking hard to keep back any more drowsiness from escaping.

He looked up at Arthur, a little more attentive now. This was something he had been interested in seeing from the get go. "My home?" He repeated quietly. "Yes, I think I would like that sir..." He was really very grateful to have Arthur being so accomidating; he had expected to be met with something very different and less pleasent. He really did seem to be making the best of Bryce's situation, and that was something he wasn't used to experiencing.

Bryce strode along behind Arthur, keeping up easily despite being so tired. He climbed up the hill just after him and stopped at the top once he was by his side. His mouth opened slightly as he took in the building. "You..." He swallowed. "You built this sir? For me?" It seemed impossible someone would go to such lengths to actually personalize a home for him; and so perfectly. "I don't... I don't know what to say sir. I didn't think it would be quite... Like this."

Bryce walked through his new house with Arthur in an awed silence. He honestly didn't know what to say... Despite his family's money, he had never had anything even close to this ever given to him. Then again, he considered, most kids didn't. He stopped at the end of the tour and gave Arthur a look that no one had even been able to quite figure out at this point. It was a good look, but it seemed kind of confused and distant at the same time. "This is all mine?" Bryce asked, his tone hushed as if his voice could bring down the walls.

Bryce shook his head, his hands clasped behind his back as he tried not to oggle at the room he was in. "No sir, I'm fine for food and drink." He smirked only slightly at the mention of the dream meta. "I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the warning." Then he hesitated, about to continue... "Sir, thank you for... You know, helping me out as much as you have the last couple hours. I didn't think it would be this nice on Victory Hill." Nicer than home at any rate.

"Goodbye sir." Bryce sat down on the end if his new bed and waited until Arthur was gone before collapsing into it's sheets like a deadman. God was he tired... Bryce didn't tire easily, usually he could go for hours and hours. But this recent bout of adventure was way too hard for even Bryce to handle, and he was beat.

He slept until the alarm rang, and he hit the snooze at least three times before actually opening his eyes. For a long moment he was terrified, completely not recognizing where he was. After getting up and wandering around the building, however, Bryce found the welcome basket. He let out a whoosing breath as the memories came flooding back again, and he reached out to finger through it's contents. Pleased to find a packet of Skittles inside, Bryce ripped them open and began to munch on them as he found his way back into his bedroom to find his clothes.

Putting on the most formal thing he had in there, Bryce went through his memorized procedure of getting ready for a party. After a quick clean, he finished by scrubbing his teeth with a toothbrush he had found waiting for him in the bathroom.

Bryce, finished with his teeth, washed his hands one for time before glancing out the window to see the two walking up to his front door. A little fist of nervousness wrapped itself around his gut, but he ignored it and met them at the front door.

"Hello miss Rachael."

Bryce took Sam's hand and shook it soldily with a smile for appearance. "Hello Sam. Pleasure to meet you." He let go of the guy's hand. "And I'm doing fairly well actually, despite circumstances."

Bryce hid his surprise and followed after them, striding evenly to keep up. "May I ask what your powers are?" He asked, doing up the buttons on the front of his jacket so they didn't move too much in the wind. He really was curious... He was pretty sure what Rachael's were, but Sam was new.

Bryce cleared his throat and got back onto his feet with Sam's help. "I see." He dusted his pants off clean of dirt and then kept walking beside Rachael. "That's uhm, that's a handy talent. Thank you for demonstrating." He smirked a little.

Bryce considered it for a moment. Could he? "Yeah, probably... If you'll give me a moment." He tried to focus. So far he had only been able to do it while angry. After several moments nothing happened, and Bryce grew annoyed. "Maybe not. It's only happened a couple times and - " Suddenly a rock near his feet began to vibrate and glow a light blue. Bryce stopped and reached down to pick it up, and then let it rest on his upturned palm so he could watch it shift. After vibrating for several moments the little rock formed into a small strawberry in his palm. "Oh no. There it goes. That's uh," he turned the fruit over in his hands. "That's a new one actually..."

Bryce gave Sam a blank look, onky a slight frown on his face. "Alchemy? I... I was told I was a Chemistry Manipulator." He offered the strawberry to Rachael with a small smile.

"Ah." Bryce nodded. "I'm sorry. I understand." The bar came up ahead and, glancing back at the two before walking inside. He held the door for the others while he looked around over his shoulder at the others inside, gadging the atmosphere.

((Perfect. ♥))

message 65: by Celine☆ (new)

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce pulled up a chair beside the two. The atmosphere in here was nice, a little less formal than he as used to. There were way more kids, but that was to be expected right? At the mention of another name, Bryce looked up and then followed Rachael's gaze until his eyes met their target. Almost instantly he stopped. He nearly forgot where he was; suddenly too absorbed in the stranger to think. Jesus Christ, he didn't think anyone could look so perfect from just across the room. What did Rachael call him? Julian? He had to remember that...

"Uhm," After finally succeeding in tearing his eyes away from the guy, Bryce stared at the menu blankly. "I'm not really hungry, to be honest. I ate with Arthur earlier today." He let his gaze slide back to Julian for a moment. "Shadow boy?"

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce gave him a small smile. "Okay, you're probably right. I'll get some soup then." He gestured to a random kind on the menu and then watched as the waiter strode off. He went back to the topic again. "Darkness? Really?" Glancing back at Julian, he frowned a little. It was difficult to tell one's powers from the way they looked.

"I see." Bryce nodded and let out a breath. He wanted to go over and talk to him, but somehow that small distance seemed like an entire spacewalk away. Bryce had never done anything like actually getting up to talk to someone of interest before... Never once. No need to say anything, he already knew it was sad. But if he could...

Bryce slowly broke out of it and turned to look at Rachael, almost immediately feeling like he had done something wrong. His father had always said, if someone else offers to do something for you, you've stepped out of line. However, this was another kid... Did it apply? "I, uh," he debated. "Sure. Yes, uhm, that would be very nice of you... miss Rachael..." The end of the sentence came out a little slower as he tried not to rethink his decision.

For one very stressful moment, it seemed as if an iron viper had clamped it's jaws around his throat; it's lengthy tail coiling around his stomach. One way or another, however, Bryce managed to say something of perfect politeness. "Hello Julian." It was impossible to tell he was so nervous he hid it so well.

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce slid onto the stool and glanced back at Rachael as she made her retreat. He gave her silent thanks and then turned slightly so he was facing the same direction as the other. "It's nice," he said simply, nodding in agreement with his own words. "It's not full of cages and scientists, which was pretty much it's selling feature for me."

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce shook his head and turned his eyes away from the bar. "I don't drink." He responded simply, deciding to keep the habit. It came from when he had to talk to people and give excuses at parties, being as he would be the only sober one left in his family to do so.

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce didn't say anything for a long moment, just a small but constant frown of thought written along his face. "May I ask how long you've been here?" He finally asked, glancing at Julian sideways.

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce nodded, grabbing a pastachio from the little ash-tray like dish and prying it open with his fingers. "I see." He said quietly. What was wrong with him? Usually Bryce could make conversation with anyone... Why was this so difficult all of a sudden?

message 76: by Celine☆ (new)

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce swallowed, suddenly guilty of the feelings he was getting. In response to Julian's question, he shrugged. If he had been under normal circumstances, Bryce and anyone who knew him would have been shocked by seeing him shrug in such an informal way. "I dunno, miss Rachael and Sam seemed to want to be alone for the most part... And I figured I should get to know more people around Victory Hill if I'm going to be spending the rest of my life here." Although it seemed as if his words should be spoken ruefully; they didn't. Another talent of his, this one learned, in action.

"No... I don't think so. What's a class?" Bryce frowned a little and glanced at the bourbon. "And what's that?"

message 78: by Celine☆ (new)

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
"Oh, oh," He nodded, memory finally showing up to serve at the prompts. "The color thing. Yes, miss Rachael told me I was an Orange class." Bryce nodded to himself. "I just came earlier today so I... I don't really understand all the classes and such yet." Sounding modest, but not self depricating, Bryce reached out to touch Julian's empty shot. It slid away from him just out of reach. "Alcohol hates me." It was a surprise since it had never really happened before. Once pondered later, Bryce would decide it was his initial dislike to liquor that made his abilities act up. It was almost always in his favor.

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce just watched the glass fill with amber liquid. Julian's words kind of struck home with him. Although he had been attending a private, and very high-end school his entire life, it was impossible to escape from the rebellious kids. The ones who used YOLO as their motto and took regular joy rides in their parent's vehicles. There were always those moments of confusing mystery around those kids, and almost subconsciously Bryce had wondered if skateboarding was fun. His father had laughed when a client complained about all the dilemmas he was having with his teenage daughter; saying with a voice just slightly slurred by alcohol, "Bryce would never do that... I'd beat him if he did." Bruce didn't know whether to take that as very seriously, or simply as a drunk man's joke. He never bothered to find out. 'Living' was another thing he was alienated from. "So uhm, you're power is shadows?" He asked, a little lamely.

Bryce smiled a little and nodded. "Yeah... Well it suits you anyway. Leather jacket man." He tried to loosen up a little. To be honest, he was jealous of Julian's laid-back attitude, and he was having a hard time adjusting to their conversation. Usually Bryce was very multi-fauceted in formal environments, but when it came to this bad boy kid, he was next to lost on how to communicate.

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce frowned at the glass, and then at Julian. That's sad.

Maybe an innocent shot was what he needed, though... Something to get his foot out the door and into a new place. "I..." He stared at the glass a little more, debating. Then, before he could double-think himself, Bryce turned the glass up and filled his mouth with bourbon. The liquid stayed in his mouth for a good thirty seconds before he just shook his head and spit it out into the glass again. Nope, he couldn't do it. The only thing was, his power had replaced the liquor with clean water... No wonder it didn't feel right in his mouth. "Oh."

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
The weird thing was, Bryce felt both disappointed and yet incredibly relieved that Julian had gone. He shoved the glass of water away moodily, as it was the source of his disgrace, and let out a deep breath. Well, his body wouldn't let him drink and there was nothing he could do about it.

Bryce jumped as the voice picked up behind him, startling him out of his thoughts. The guy just completely verbalized exactly what he had been thinking and feeling for the last couple minutes. "Oh, uh, hello mister O'Brien... I'm Bryce Conway..." He paused, then his eyebrows knit together in thoughtful concern. "Was it that obvious?" It was asked in a cringe worthy tone.

Mm. Bryce sighed noislessly and put his chin into his palm. "But I can't even talk straight around him... I don't know what to do, he's just so different than what I'm used to." He rubbed at a smudge on the bar counter hopelessly.

"You don't know that - " The Bryce caught himself and stopped dead, almost visibly flinching at the slap he would have gotten for beginning to speak like that. "I'm sorry sir, I mean... I have a bit of a hard time communicating with people my own age... I'm better talking to adults." He glanced at the glass he was being handed, and the up at Danny. "I don't have any money..."

message 86: by Celine☆ (new)

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce listened, watching Danny with a silent but deep interest. Oh. "Thank you sir." He gave a small smile to the bartender, a smile that was small and shy, almost uncertain, but not lacking in genuity. "I... I'm glad someone understands. So far I've been so alone I don't really... Know where to start." That was Bryce; alone in a crowd of hundreds.

Bryce cringed inside. Sounds like a real approachable guy. He nodded nevertheless and took another drink from his glass. "I guess I could still give it a shot... I don't really have anything to lose."

This time Bryce full out stared at him. "You would?" Woah. "I... Thanks, I don't know what to say sir. I uhm, I feel awful about it but I have to decline." He gave Danny that small smile again. "Although that's a wonderful offer I just... I would rather get to know him myself... Begging your pardon sir."

((Just picked a random one. ^.^))

Bryce glanced over at the cat and made a face. His mother had hated cats, and his father never gave an opinion. He had only been around one this close when he had visited his aunt while he was sixish. The nasty tom had torn his pant legs to ribbons and made a nice network of stinging cuts on any piece of skin he left exposed. But this cat didn't seem as mangy or vicious, so maybe it wasn't out to eat him.

Celine☆ | 3852 comments Mod
Bryce hesitantly reached out towards the cat, and then stroked it on the head carefully. "Thanks for not eating me..." He said quietly, remembering how his mother had scared the crap out of him one day by telling him a lie that cats would knaw off your ears if you got too close. It was to discourage the want of a pet. He knew better now, but it still stuck with him.
