SOLVED. fantasy/ humorous book about twins [s]

Royal twins are separated at birth. The girl is raised as a man in an all male group believing that she is also a man. She is told that the other men suffer from a curse,or something like that, which causes a mutated growth and so she is not to let herself be seen naked by them since she is not cursed. But she would really be killed if they found out that a girl was among them. The boy is raised in a castle without ever knowing he has a twin sister. I believe it is the first of a series but not entirely sure. I read it in the mid to late 90s.

Sounds like a fun book! Do you remember if there were any other fantasy elements (dragons, magic, etc)?

Did the reader know all along that the kids were related? Or, readers come to discover that the boy and girl are siblings?

That sounds familiar. My brothers convinced me that mine just hadn't grown in yet. Led to an interesting conversation with my teacher on the first day of school. :D
