"It is worse than I thought! We have to get you to the infirmary! Right now! Do you think you can walk?"

"Are you sure? Because I don't know what I am capable of doing...because I have never met anyone with the same lineage as I do..."

"No worries. I'm alright. Thank you for your assistance today. You would make a wonderful Nurse." He said, his voice calm and encouraging, even as his face was blank and emotionless.
"What the heck is wrong with you? I would burn more people than I could heal if you couldn't tell from before." She shook her head. "Stop with the act. I know how you really feel. So you don't have to feel bad for saying it. You don't want to get hurt again so you would rather not hang around me. I am sorry." She walked past him and started towards camp.

He called after her, not looking back. He walked in the opposite direction towards the woods. He had found a place there once, beyond the river and through a cave. There was a messy area of vegetation, but if you made it through, there was a thick hedge that stood tall above the trees. If you could find it, there was a small opening, and on the other side - was an open meadow with a large widow tree in the center. In the shade of the tree was a small shack. Inside was a small, dusty sitting area; with two small broken couches, an old fashioned television set, and a creaky rocking chair; an open plan kitchen and dining room with an old rickety table and four worn out dining chairs and some old cupboards that were once white, but were now an icky brownish color due to age; two small bedrooms with a bed, nightstand, lamp, a dresser full of clothes and a bookshelf stuffed with books; a worn down bathroom held captive at the end of the back hall with the bedrooms. Another short corridor lead to an expansive master bedroom, which was decorated nearly just like the other two rooms, but with the added bonus of an adjacent bathroom with running water and cleaning chemicals and other such things, and in the closet, behind the clothes and heavy boxes, was an attic door. The attic hid what looked like an old workshop, with thousands of tools, work benches, and other workshop equipment. Under the desk at the far end of the attic was a trapdoor, and if you ventured down the ladder in the trap door, it was a whole new world. An underground house; a perfect hiding spot. It has been empty when Drake had first found it, but now he had filled it with most of the belongings he had brought with him when he first arrived, as well as treasures he found and things he had moved down there from the shack above.
It had been a few months since he had been back here, and the whole place was a mess. In order to keep his mind off of things, he set about cleaning the shack and the underground home he had made for himself from top to bottom. It was late afternoon by the time he had finished, and he was worn out. He went out to the backyard, where the garden was filled with a powerful magical energy that made him feel warm and fuzzy inside. He picked some flowers and decorated the house with wonderful bouquets held together by the sticky and beautiful leaves of the widow tree. Once he finished, he frowned at the chipped paint that made his hard work seem sloppy and a wast of time. He left the shack and returned to camp, sneaking into a shed full of tools and supplies and taking a few extra tools and several dozen paint buckets. He used a sturdy backpack that looked like it hadn't been used since the dawn of time to carry most of it, but a few of the paint buckets he had to carry by hand.
He made his way out of the shed and took the long route around the camp, where he was less likely to be seen. He quickly made his way back to his shack, and hurried back to the she for wooden planks. He had some there, but he figured a few extra wouldn't hurt. Back at the shack again, he began his work, his strength as a son of Ares helping him to work quickly and smoothly.
The outside had new sidings, and had been cleared of rubble that had gone through the siding. He also cleared the walls of pests and bugs. He replaced the sidings with better planks and painted the outside a bright yellow. He painted roses and bushes and flowers near the bottom foundation, to give the home an airy and breezy look. He took out all the furniture in the house in order to paint the inside and restore the old wooden floorboards and kitchen tiles. After this was accomplished he used some of the chemicals in the master bathroom to clean the furniture, and fixed up the broken furniture pieces. He placed the old broken pieces of wood and planks and such that were no longer usable by the tree for now, considering using them as firewood after building a homemade fire pit. He brought the furniture back into the house after the paint dried, and put away the chemicals he no longer needed. All the blankets and bedsheets were brought outside. He made a decent drying line and washed them all down, hanging them to dry in the last rays of afternoon light.
His work completed, he stored the broken bits at the side of the house and sat under the widow tree to take a nap, his chin falling forward to touch his chest.

Scarlet walked into the clearing, eyes searching. Why am I so stupid? Why did I have to lose my necklace?! I have to find it. She returned to the spot where she was sitting before all of the events with Drake happened. "Where is it?" She whispered to no one. She was starting to get a little freaked out, the sun was going down, and she had to find it before then or she wouldn't have enough time before the darkness descended. Which was exactly what she was afraid of right at this moment. She was crawling on the ground at this point, brushing her hands everywhere to find that small piece of metal.

Once Drake woke up, he yawned and stretched popping his back. He said goodbye to his hideaway and headed back for camp, a small smile on his face and a skip in his step.
It was the only thing I had left of my own! She looked up, the sun was starting to set, but despite her fear, she kept searching. Thinking that even if she came back tomorrow, if she doesn't find it tonight, it will be gone forever.

'Well, might well turn it in...' He thought to himself. He continued to walk, and after a while, he spot someone rapidly searching the grass. Out of curiosity he moved towards the person, only to see that it was Scar. She hadn't seen him yet, and he cocked his head at the panic that was evident in her movements. He bent down and started searching the grass, attempting to find something that she may have lost. At some point, his hand bumped against hers.
She let out a squeal of fright. and then proceeded to gasp in relief. "You about gave me a heart attack you know that?" She said, catching her breath.

"Sorry.. I didn't mean to frighten you."
She sighed, and then remembered why she was even out here in the first place. "If you don't mind, I have got to find something."

She looked up at the sun, she had ten minutes at most. But she didn't want him to see her when it was dark, it would be humiliating. But she could find it faster if she had his help. "Okay, fine. I am trying to find a small necklace with a strangely shaped ring on it...and we need to find it as soon as possible."

"I found this on my way back to camp... Is this what you're looking for?" He asked.
"YES!!!!!!!!" She quickly grabbed it. "THANK YOU THANK YOU!" Impulsively she hugged him. "You don't know how much this means to me!"

She felt his arms snake around her waist and it just felt right. Wait no. No no no no no. This can't be happening. She quickly got up and tried to dispel the awkwardness by focusing on the necklace, but she realized that the clasp was broken. She didn't have time to fix it tonight. She also didn't have time to get beck to camp before dark. "Thanks for the help, you can go ahead back to camp, I will follow behind shortly."

((Haha! did you do the < I >< / I > except with lowercase :) ))
After he was walking away, she felt the darkness closing in, choking her. No. I can get past this, I just need to calm down. The orphanage where she grew up was all bright and filled with laughs, but after the fire, she was on the streets. During that time she joined a gang, they soon figured out her power and wanted to use it to their advantage. When she didn't agree, they placed her in a metal garbage bin and piled a ton of weight on top so there was no way out. For weeks, she had been there, the only food she ate was what was in the garbage bags that were already in there. Ever since then she hated the darkness, and whenever she was consumed with the fear, it was all she thought about. It invaded her mind and she wouldn't even have the capacity to light even a spark. I am fine. I am in an open clearing. Her breathing hitched. I can't breathe. All she could think about was the darkness.

(I did.. Is that not how it's done?)
Drake hadn't gone far when he felt an unusual tug on his soul. An urge to turn back. He stopped in his tracks and turned, deciding to give in to this urge that was tearing away at him.
Scarlet was just standing there, as if she were only a statue. Drake opened his mouth to call out to her, only for her to fall to the ground. His heart stopped for a moment.
And he was running.
It took only a moment to reach her. He stooped down, and noticed that her eyes were wide open and her jaw clenched. For a moment, a part of him screamed against the thought of what he was going to do, saying the contact would be too much. He swallowed back the doubt and carefully picked Scarlet up, carrying her similarly to how you hold a newborn, as she seemed frozen in a fetal-like position.
"Shhh... It's going to be ok, Scarlet. I got you. I promise, you're going to be ok." He said, glancing down at her with a gentle smile.

Her eyes were open but she was seeing nothing, but something persisted in her hearing that was unusual. Someone was speaking to her in a gentle voice, and her mind clung on to him. His voice was her thin thread hanging over the darkness that if she could only grab onto it, it would pull her out and into the light.

Drake continued to speak in a soothing voice as he carried her back to Camp. It was dark by the time they got there and he bypassed the cabins for the infirmary. He kicked the door open, being chastised for breaking the lock and upper hinge before Scarlet was noticed. He carefully set her on a bed and the nurses there set to work on her. One of the standby nurses noticed his bandage hand and interrogated him profoundly until he admitted that he had burned himself making a campfire for himself out in the old meadow - which was convincing enough since he had done it several times before - and she forced him to an adjacent room of the clinic to have the burn checked out. He kept his eye on Scarlet as she dragged him away, a burning pain in his chest, until she was out of sight.
'Please be ok, Scarlet...' He thought to himself.

Gradually she started to hear again and her surroundings were starting to fall into place. "Where am I?" Nurses were surrounding her, all speaking at the same time, overwhelming her. With wide eyes, she looked around trying to spot some familiar face, until she remembered that she pushed away anyone who came near her.

Once he got there, he noticed the nurses were all wildly chattering and one had a small flashlight and was shining it down onto Scarlet. He felt a flare of anger run through him and he pushed past the nurses.
"Knock it off, give her some breathing room!" He growled viciously, the nurses backing away in surprise. He softened his expression and looked down at Scarlet.
"You ok, Scar?" He asked gently, placing his hand over hers.
"Drake!" She clung to his hand. "What happened? Where am I?"

Her heartbeat started to slow down with his words. Pieces of her memory started to pull together until she could remember the basics of what happened. She ducked her head down to hide her blush. "It happened again didn't it..."

"I'm not sure what happened. I saw you freeze and fall over, and I carried you back here. But, whatever happened, it's over with now. You're safe here."
Her arms wrapped around him and she hid her face in his shirt, letting a few tears slip out. "I am so sorry." Scarlet muffled against his shirt.

Her hands tightened against his shirt and she let herself calm down with his soothing words. When she was more coherent, she decided to tell him what happened to her a long time ago. With halting breaths she explained the story, leaving out the part where she had to eat food from the garbage of course, since hat was too humiliating enough as it is. "So, like a freaking five year old, I am afraid of the dark. Which is why I usually don't go out at night, or hang out around others..."
