I am quite new to this group and have been knitting for 2 years. My girlfriend in Boulder CO got me interested when the girlfriends were all together for our bi-annual reunion on Boulder. I am living in Elk Grove CA which is in Northern CA near Sacramento.

Hi Mara I use knit picks too but I love peace fleece for good wool. I'm going to take my first spinning class in April and am very excited. I don't have a wheel yet but I don't have to have one for the class so I can do some research.
Hi. I just started using a wheel I used to spin using a drop spindle, but I just got an Ashford Joy for my birthday.
I've been in northeast Washington for quite a number of years and never felt yarn deprived....where are you? I'd love to make some suggestions... I will say though that I do shop online, knitpicks included, a fair amount to supplement what I source locally.
What about Paradise Fibers in Spokane? I have to admit, even with a local yarn shop, I do most of my shopping online. I don't drive and the internet makes it so easy. I also buy yarn from Quince & Co. in Maine, all the way across the country.

Yes, Paradise is fast too. And they're quirky and different, raising llamas and building their own spinning wheels. They're people, just like us. Well, I don't have llamas or make spinning wheels, but I'm unique in my own ways ;-)
I'd like to have a little farm with some llamas but first I have yo learn to spin! I really enjoy making things with natural products. I took a class on natural dying and it was really fun but messy!

I love wensleydale cheese.
I love Yorkshire and was watching the Tour de France when it was there. And in the mean time I was spinning Wensleydale wool! Again: I love it - when it is ready to spin. Prepping took so long! But the yarn is lovely. As for me: I live in the Netherlands.
I'm in British Columbia, Canada, and since I was involved in organizing the yarn crawl in the lower mainland for a couple years, I got to learn that we have a plethora of yarn stores around here. There are two within a fifteen minute drive of where I live and a third about twenty minutes away.
Speaking of Canada...I'm here! I live in Nova Scotia (across from Maine if you're not so good with Canadian geography) and we're super friendly so we don't kill each other between and hockey and winter, especially the six month winter fiasco we received last year!! At least snow is is a good reason to stay inside and knit :D

Hi everyone, I live in West Virginia. In a tiny little town in the middle of nowhere, but I love it. We get all the seasons, which are nice, though I don't particularly care much for a lot of snow it really stinks to drive in when you have to go over three mountains to get to work:)

Those are my two favorite things to do, also Kathryn and Carolyn. I especially like to read an occasional book that involves both knitting and mystery.
What books would you recommend that combine knitting and mystery? I'm from Rhode Island. Fairly new to knitting (maybe two years) and obsessed with sock knitting!

I've been a lucker here though I get the digests everyday. I'd like recommendations of knitting mysteries as well. Some I've read don't have enough knitting:)

Hi i am Michelle, I grew up in Newfoundland, Canada where knitting still is a great tradition. My 14 year old daughter learned to knit a few years ago and now wants to learn to read patterns!
I honed my skills in the early 80's making Icelandic (LOPI) sweaters. I am so happy that these are coming back in popularity in this part of the world.
I have also been loving making hats and mittens. I have also tried my hand at a Newfoundland traditional knitting style called THRUMMING.
I am an avid reader and currently reading some books set in my lovely province by Victoria Barbour.

What is Thruming? A knitting style? It's a term I've never herd this word before. Sounds interesting.
Hi everyone - I'm Alex from Brisbane in Australia which is a bit of a silly place to like knitting because it is so blinking hot most of the time. I grew up in Canberra - a much cooler climate with four seasons - alpine type country. I visited Canada and a little bit of the US (Seattle) for the first time last year and am deeply envious of all your lovely wool shops. I think we are down to 1 wool shop that I know of now in Brisbane - very sad indeed but understandable. I am bookluvvie on Ravelry.
