Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Requesting nominations for selecting an Indian book for our group read during Aug-Sep 2013.

Authors, please refrain from nominating your own books or asking your friends to nominate your books. Group reads is not the forum to promote your book.

The first 5 nominations will be put up for poll by Friday 26th July.

Ashmantak Pandey | 5 comments thanx Literature Bug

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments I'm afraid you nominated a foreign book in the thread for Indian books.

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Yes, being an indian readers group, we do like to insist on at least one indian read in every group read. This is not to discriminate against one another. There is a separate thread for a non-Indian read as well, u can suggest Mother there.

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments I see that 26th July has flown by and we don't even have 5 nominations for each category - could I nominate a couple of more books? Or shall we wait? I'm fine with both :)

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments Swimming Lessons and Other Stories from Firozsha Baag by Rohinton Mistry - light-hearted stories set in Mumbai's Firozeshah Baug, a Parsi community area, sketchily based on his experiences - delightful read

Chokher Bali - a Tagore classic

Begums, Thugs, and White Mughals: The Journals of Fanny Parkes by Fanny Parks - edited by William Dalrymple, written by an Englishwoman about her extensive travels in British India (1800s) and her immense, passionate, unrivalled love for the nation - I bet no foreigner ever loved India the way she did. (Mods, should you find this still improper to include in an Indian Book category, please consider it my nomination for the Foreign Book Poll)

Thanks for allowing me to nominate more books :)

message 13: by Parvathi (new)
