What did you think of the epilogue? I thought it was great fun! I enjoyed it. Everyone happy and all ^_^ (view spoiler)[better than the ending...before the epilogue :/ It was so disappointing though. So annoyingly slow and absolutely ridiculously dragged and painfully long (whoa, so many adverbs). It was as if the author was trying to make it dramatic and intense, and twisty, but it came off as so badly written and lame .
Did you guys like Valentine? He didn't do justice to his villainy at all. He was not do impressive or scary the slightest bit. Nothing. Just stupid old bad tempered evil guy.
And the thing about Clary and Jace?! As if having the most evil man alive, ex-Shadowhunter as a father was not enough, there HAD to be a nasty incest?! -,- I still hope they aren't actually siblings though. So will read the sequel to find that out exactly. They are not siblings, ok Clare? This isn't any other kind of forbidden love...This is disturbing (hide spoiler)]

Simon suddenly threw open the bedroom door and stepped out into the hallway. And she pulled away from Jace hastily,turning her head aside, and he felt it with the sharp pain of a bandage ripped off his skin. Simon was saying something--a jumble of angry words--and Jace thought of all the times that he'd been in this situation before. Kissing some girl in an alley behind a bar, or pressed up against the wall of a club. And her boyfriend, or the poor guy who'd thought he had a chance, staring at them like someone had just reached into his chest and ripped out his heart.
Jace had always felt sorry for that guy, but in a distant sort of way, like the guy was a character in a play acting out being heartbroken. Now, looking at Simon, he realised he'd never feel that way again. Because the way Clary was looking at Simon, her whole attention caught up by him, her regret plain on her face, made him realize Simon wasn't the guy in the play who was about to get his heart shattered into pieces. I'm about 75% done now. Sorry I couldn't update more, but I am LOVING THIS! I absolutely adore her writing style and have fallen for these characters and their various plots and schemes.

I'm a little tired of Clary just diving headlong into any situation without creating any real plan, EVER. It just doesn't seem to be working out very well, over and over and over again. So I'm hoping she gets over that a little bit.... just a little.

I know right? The characters are so fun. And the writing is beautiful. And yeah, Clary does seem all clueless and still dives into every situation just like that. It's annoying.

Finished it today!

Absolutely loved it! It's the first 1st book in a series that I have really loved this whole year :)

I totally did not expect the twist at the end, and I am VERY curious to see where that leads Clary and Jace and the whole group.

I also hope two particular characters end up together. And I hope Isabelle grows as a characters. She reminds me a lot of the evil sister from Beautiful Creatures, and seems like a stock character rather than a real person at this point. I'd like to see her grow as an individual and see her friendship with Clary grow as well. :) I always love seeing strong female friendships in books :)

I agree! One of my favorites this year, which says a lot for me. I even bought book two already. I'm excited and apprehensive, same reasons you are! I saw that twist coming, though I didn't understand how they'd make it "work out" if you know what I mean.

this is a reread for me and I last read it in 2012 so I kind of expect that i wont like it as much as I originally did but aah there are some lines that just seem so off and the way she over describes everything or describes in such an extravagant way is so strange, it keeps pulling me out of the book.

chapter 8: (view spoiler)[one thing I've always been so grateful for in this series is that they immediatwlt told the best friend. the amount of books where the best friend is this annoying presence that doesn't know anything is staggering and it always bothers me. the main character is always lying to them and there's all this tension and its just annoying. but here they find him in a bush and tell him everything, it's wonderful

I have a feeling Valentine took her and I wonder who Clary's father used to be. Luke seems to be protecting Clary and making sure she doesn't come to him so she doesn't get caught. part 2 (view spoiler)[ Well Jace and Clary's relationship expanded and I'm happy they are something! Poor Simon, he declared his love for Clary at such an awful time. I hope Clary can get her mother back and it's a good thing she found the mortal cup. It just sucks now that Hodge took it and invited Valentine to take it in exchange for Hodge's freedom. The wolves were strange at first, I was wondering why they kept coming. I have a feeling it's Luke. I wonder what Valentine is going to do with Jace and how Clary is going to get him back. I love this series and I'm happy to be reading it again. (hide spoiler)]
