I've only just started reading his stuff, but I'm really enjoying it so far.

Looks to be an entirely different universe however:

"Described as “A classic coming-of-age tale, set in a brilliantly imagined alternative historical world reminiscent of the Dark Ages with Viking overtones"

"The series does not take place in Abercrombie’s First Law universe, the next book of which should be coming some time in 2017, according to the author."

Kevin | 701 comments Yea, picking this up is a no-brainer for me.

Though the book blurb doesn't get me exceptionally excited, the man has produced 6 books of consistently high quality in 7 years with the actual writing getting better in each book (though my favourite is still Best Served Cold), giving him a chance when he wants to try something new is the least I can do.

Darren I was hoping he would stick to not writing trilogies, but I'll check these out. There isn't enough viking in fantasy.

Joseph Can't wait for this, basically will read/buy anything this man writes.

This looks promising too. :)

James (ObservantRaven) | 37 comments I've just finished reading The Blade Itself and I knew it was going to be very gritty which I do generally enjoy in a book but I didn't find myself liking it as much as I thought I going was to. I hope the 2nd and 3rd books in the First Law trilogy are better.

I liked book 2 better, but 3 not as much.

Kevin | 701 comments It's the 3 standalones where it's really at IMO. They all surpass the original trilogy.

Mike | 2 comments I thought Best Served Cold was the weakest, but I'll be there for whatever he writes.

message 11: by Darren (new)

Darren Really? I thought Best Served Cold was Abercrombie's best book.
