Preston | 20148 comments Hang in there because Ottawa is a big city and I have a feeling you are going to meet people there who will be very important in your life.

I felt helpless and hopeless at times but somehow just knowing that it has got to get better (because it can't get any worse) was enough to pull me through until things really did get better and then eventually they got to be great.

I'm P.O.'d that this is happening to you but if you know that while things take time, the future can be better than you can imagine—well then at least there is hope you can hang onto.

Boyd (boydwalker) | 2304 comments Julia,

I'm sorry that social services and life has you all down but Preston is right, things do get better over time. Go all out in making LGBT friends in Ottawa.

Hugs, Boyd

Audiothing I don't want to call a room a space!
When did that happen? A room was always a room, who started to call it a space? Why? Eh?

message 9: by Roger (last edited Aug 25, 2014 01:22AM) (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Ah, but you're right, a room is always just a room, whereas A SPACE… now with a space you can configure things, you can imagine and reimagine, and reorder, and expand and sound like a jerk…

Ah, but what about A Room with a View?

Doesn't really work as A Space with a View does it? ;)

I am sorry you hate work because work is something that is very time consuming. Consuming your life. Consuming you. I have great empathy for your hatred of work. You are not alone.

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Not everyone is lucky enough to work at what they enjoy doing, perhaps most never do, but I've always worked at what I love doing: painting, film making, editing, journalism, book editing and publishing, map making, and writing. The trick is to have the courage to make a living from what you might consider a hobby :-))

I work with my husband and it is a job I have know previous experience in. To be honest we did not want to be working together it just happened due to a series of decision we made or did not make. He owns a shop. Anyway, we are in the process of changing our life so that we can enjoy working and life in general. It is a slow process but we are trying to better the situation.

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Gosh, Hilary, you really don't want to go to that stupid group dinner you said you would attend on Thursday. :-)

message 20: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments Gosh Hilary you must really be upset about the stupid group dinner since you had to say it twice to get all your pique out about having to go.

I'm sorry you have to go to the dinner. I hope the weather at the base is nice. Best wishes to you and your Navy officer hubby.

Hilary Evans (hilevans83) | 121 comments Sorry guys. Everything is posting twice with the new update. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Maybe it will work now...

message 23: by Hilary (new)

Hilary Evans (hilevans83) | 121 comments My hubby is just a Petty Officer, which is a term they use for the mid to high level enlisted guys. It's not an official officer rank...lol. It took me forever to figure it out. The weather here is gorgeous. My hubby is actually the reason I don't want to go the dinner. He's in port as of now, but I found last night he has duty today, so he won't be able to call me for a long call until after he gets off work tomorrow...around the time of that dinner. Unfortunately I'm hosting the dinner, so it would be lame to not show up. I both love and hate unscheduled port visits.....

Preston | 20148 comments Hilary wrote: "Unfortunately I'm hosting the dinner, so it would be lame to not show up."

Dang, your right. As the host it would be hard to skip the dinner but you could bring your phone with you and talk to him during dinner. Everyone else will be texting and gabbing anyway so they won't notice.

Again sorry for the rotten luck. I know how important those phone calls are when you're in love ♡

Very true Roger, but not all of us are as lucky at being as multi-talented as you are.

message 26: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Thanks, Rick :-) Fortunately, I was away in London for two days so I didn't get to see that and have to wonder what to say in return!

Wait, what? Where's the cue to "Beam me up Scotty, there's no intelligent life on this planet" (present company excluded, of course).

Monika | 3337 comments And I wish I could hug you right now to make you feel a bit better, or take you to some ice cream or hot chocolate or even lend you my sleeping cat for a while - she is really good for bad mood :)
There are plenty of bad days but remember that there are good ones too, and both are needed otherwise we wouldn't know the difference between them. If you want to complain about something specific that isn't for all to read you can always send me a message :)

This is very true. I keep telling myself this almost everyday. Some days I even believe myself. ;)

There was a time when I thought it was a complete rubbish but then I changed my mind. When I finished HS I went to medical college because I decided that I want to help others in the future. Simple, right? But then, during my internship I was sent to children's hospital to oncology department (or however it is called in English) and let me tell you, for me it was a great lesson about appreciating what I have. Meeting all those children, whose days were all bad, from my point of view, and who tried to live their best for as long as they could taught me to find good in small things.
