Charley come back to her apartment after that incredible night with Reyes to find the ghost of a little girl scratching at her bed...and then more blond women as she looks around. Have you ever heard of a ghost that is still so traumatized that they can't communicate?

We also find out that there's a new suspect in the arson case. Did you know who Charley suspected once she had the description? Why do you think she's lighting the fires?

Meigan No to the first question, at least when it pertains to this series. I have read about traumatized ghosts in other books though.

As per the second question, I had an inkling. It was kind of easy to figure out once you had all the clues. And once you knew the person, the reasoning behind the fires needed no explanation. I was just surprised it was who it was. Some of these characters sure are changing :)

I think as soon as there was another suspect, I knew who it had to be, but it surprised me.

Ines (slayraa) | 684 comments To be honest, I never thought about ghosts being traumatised or not. It's weird they kept feelings, but since they are ghosts they can do whatever they please, I don't fully grasp what they really are.

In the end of the last book I thought she could be the arsonist since the reasons to consider Reyes as a suspect applied to her as well. But for some reason in this book I thought we would discover it was someone else under Reyes' orders. In my opinion, the reason she gives in the book is perfectly acceptable. If I had lived such a horrible life and could destroy every proof such life ever existed, I'd probably do it as well. Specially considering she also thinks she is protecting Reyes by doing so.

Yes, I didn't think it was Reyes, however it didn't even occur to me who it actually was. :-)

Ines (slayraa) | 684 comments Darynda is so good at leading us in the wrong direction, but I am always 99% sure I know what's happening. My reaction finding out these things should be filmed as I am reading. It's a "no way" face with an open mouth hehe

It's not surprising to me that someone who died a horrific death be traumatized as a ghost. Charley finally got her to open up. :-)

Stephanie (thirstyflea) | 223 comments I think ghosts can be traumatized, although it seems like it was something Charley didn't have to deal with often in the past, even the brutally murdered ones she's met. Those girls must have been so completely traumatized that they didn't really get that they were dead and no longer feeling that pain, so much so that they couldn't see Charley's light or be able to communicate with her on any level, except appearing in her apartment.

As for the arsonist- I must be dense, because it didn't even occur to me until we heard the description of a woman, and I thought about the buildings being burned, then it all made sense! I agree Ines- Darynda is amazing at steering us awry and then spouting the real thing at us! I love it little "surprises"!!
