Which LIST book did you just start?
About to start on The Hound of the Baskervilles, my first proper attempt at a Sherlock Holmes story :).

I watched the film a week or so ago - not sure how I feel about reading the book.

I watched ACO before my current first reading, and have a lot of friends who rave about book and movie. We'll see how the novel measures up.
I've seen the movie and I didn't like it at all... But I just started to read A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce.
Mekki wrote: "I just started
by Lawrence Durrell"I haven't read any of Lawrence Durrell's novels, but I highly recommend (non-list book) My Family and Other Animals by Lawrence's brother Gerald Durrell.

I started reading A Clockwork Orange
yesterday and am enjoying it so far. I was a bit confused by the language to start with but am kind of used to it now.

Thanks. I have that on my TBR from the guardian 1000 list
I've started on The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. This is the first time I'm trying pulp fiction – it's nice how the list introduces us to new genres! I've read the first chapter and I'm enjoying the sarcastic humour.
Less than zero. Bret Easton Ellis. Seriously wondering why I need to read this book before I die. At least it's a short book.
Just started Casino Royale.Regarding A Clockwork Orange I read the book first and loved it, but I feel like watching the movie later ruined the images I had created in my mind. If I'd seen the film first, I think I might have avoided the book, too. (glad I didn't)
Becky wrote: "Less than zero. Bret Easton Ellis. Seriously wondering why I need to read this book before I die. At least it's a short book."Sheesh! I did it again - not on the list but Glamourama is. Don't think I'll be rushing out to buy it. Less than Zero was horrid.
Bucket wrote: "Just diving in to Elizabeth Costello by J.M. Coetzee"I love Coetzee and I've read all of his books from the list but I didn't like this book at all... It was boring.

Have to agree Mia it seemed to drag and felt at times like a chore.
I'm hoping that George Eliot's 'Middlemarch' will be long enough to keep me amused for the two weeks worth of train travel around Japan I have ahead of me. If not I have 'War and Peace' as a back up!
Kaitlyn wrote: "Just started The Waves. It's my first Woolf book so I'm interested to see how it goes."
That was my first Woolf's book too...

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. Being a couple chapters in, I'm finding the characters quite absurd.
Robyn wrote: "I have read a few chapters of The Once and Future King. So far, I love it. I think this is one chunkster that will cause me no problems."I just finished this book and loved it from beginning to end, although the tone of the book changes as you can probably imagine.
Aubrey wrote: "A reread of One Hundred Years of Solitude, in honor of Gabriel García Márquez's recent death."I didn't realize he had passed away until your post. I have had One Hundred Years of Solitude on my TBR list for the past couple of months. I need to give it another try since I couldn't get into the book when I tried reading it 15 years ago.
